Never hurts to have a good buddy.

I despise hyenas. They are absolutely disgusting.... from the way they look to the way they sound.

Worst animal ever.

They’re cats evolved to look like dogs and they’re scavengers.

I’ve been to the Ngorongoro Crater before and saw two hyenas being harassed off its meal by marabou storks and other scavenger birds. Plenty of lions were around then but they spent most of the time sleeping.

His friend showed up. That’s what convinced the hyenas to get out of there and leave the lions alone.

Friends are important, even for lions.

Lions are social cats. Cheetahs can occasionally form coalitions.

“The lion, named Red, appears to unknowingly venture into a hyena territory...”

He’s lucky they didn’t have arrows to shoot at him.

I was always impressed with this footage of a lion/hyena confrontation. (the narrator, not so much). Here, the lioness seems to be content just shooing the hyena off. The male lion is having none of that. Surprisingly fast, he's not hungry, he just wants to kill the sumbitch...

Misleading intro implies that lion successfully fended them off.

Thank you for sharing the most fascinating and touching video I’ve seen in a long time.

His cousin saved him.

I had no idea of the outcome and I was thinking “maybe another lion will come to his rescue!! Do lions do that!?! Are they sociable creatures that way??”

And then they rubbed their manes together like they were saying

“thanks cous, you saved my life!!”

“No problem man but next time be careful where you go!!”

Hyenas remind me of MS13 for some reason.

What impressed me was that at 10 to 1, the odds shifted back to the lions, so that the hyenas beat a retreat. I’ve seen several videos of a pack of hyenas trying to drive a bunch of lionesses off a kill only to scatter to the four winds when a lion shows up. A single hyena is over-matched by a single lioness and is dead in a match-up with a lion.

Depends on the species of hyena. The spotted hyenas may kill as much as 95% of the animals they eat, while striped hyenas are largely scavengers.

Mongoose are also members of the cat family, or more accurately the suborder of Feliformia:
