The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

Wish I could give you some! I lived in Claremont CA for 36 years and we tried to grow them there, but no luck either.

I really like XMAS Cactus. We used to have one.

Maybe so. I just do very basic canning. I put a smidge of beef base for just a hint of salt. Add 2-4 tablespoons of boiling water. Then I use it to make many different dishes.
I especially like beef barley soup in the crock pot.
That’s what I have to do. I’m still not great at knowing which are ripe, so I don’t try to make any recipes; just eat them as a dessert.
I’ve read that the seeds can be used as coffee substitute, but have never tried that.

For din dinz tonight I made cream of asparagus soup and coconut curry soup with garbanzo beans.
Made grilled cheeses sammies to go along.
I love soup of all kinds.

I like New Eng. Clam Chowder or Shrimp Chowder. Lots of soup in the winter for me.
I used to love clam chowder and fish and chips and all kinds of seafood until I got thyroid disease.
I don’t know what happened.
The only seafood I can eat now is shrimp cooked in butter and Tapatio sauce.
It is very cold here in the Colorado Rockies. The forecast high and low for tomorrow are 20F/8F. I am looking at plans for next years garden though

I have the wood burning stove fireplace insert blazing away. It is 71F in the living room right now.
I think your posting should be at your convenience dear. I don’t usually make it to reading the thread till the fun is over anyway but it’s always enjoyable. Love to read how gardens fare around the globe :)
I’ve got 15 peppers, 6 tomatoes, my lemon tree and 5-6 dozen ornamentals in my glass rooms for the winter. Fixin to put seed down for spring maters and peppers.
Had company for lunch today. We’ve had 2 freezes in our area so far. Company was very complimentary that they were able to watch me pick and then get to eat the fresh tomato and peppers on tacos. That’s one of those nice pleasurable things about being able to overwinter indoors. Days are too short so plants need the rest to not set fruit a while but the last little bit is real nice.
Yes, I love having some fresh stuff on hand to pick in the winter too.
We are going to get an insert. We have a double fireplace and it has built in circulating fans, but an insert would be even better.
We used to have a wood stove in the basement. When the kids were small we used to basically heat with wood-had to wear shorts it was so warm.
Now we don’t have the wood stove, because we put an apartment in downstairs. So the basement has baseboard heaters. And I have a couple of electric space heaters.
Of course it’s okay. You contribute a lot so whatever works for you is fine!
Anything is better than drought and fires. Those poor people. That one town is completely gone.
