WEEKLY GARDEN THREAD DEC. 1, 2018
freerepublic | DEC. 1, 2018 | greeneyes

Posted on 12/01/2018 5:06:30 PM PST by greeneyes

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.

From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed any time-and don't have to be about gardening.

Greetings from Missouri. Temps were at 50 degrees today. Not much sunshine today, or all week for that matter and none for the next 5 days. Way more gloom than usual for this time of the year.

Had planned to do a little work outdoors due to the forcasted mild weather, but a deluge overnight nixed that. So I bought some beef roast on sale and canned it today instead.

The winter wheat, rye, and garlic is looking good. Not quite 3 inches tall yet. Hope all is well with you and yours. Have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.

Pinging the list. Going forward, I would like to begin posting on Saturday afternoon or evenings. I hope that is ok with everyone.

"...posting on Saturday afternoon or evenings. I hope that is ok with everyone."

Sounds good, nothing is growing anyway - it's the season of dead things here in deep blue konnecticut.
The eight inches of snow we got two weeks ago is almost gone. Is it spring yet? Are we almost there....?

I know what you mean. It’s been mostly cold here, sure liked the warmer weather today - sun would have been even better to go along with it. LOL

We didn’t get any beets this year. I like to pickle them. Also they make really good chips, if sliced paper thin.

LOL. Don’t we just wish it was Spring? Not even “officially” winter yet.

Saturday evenings works for me greeneyes! The garlic patch is mostly up and the Vetch is sprouting. I need to work on finding the glitch in my ability to post photos as in the past. Temps are mild as usual and as usual it is raining on Humboldt Bay...

Rain must be better than drought and fires! Well, I do hope you figure out the picture thing - I miss seeing them. Take care.

Greetings from Mississippi! Most everything is dead outside, but winter houseplants are beautiful...especially Christmas cacti. Wish I could post pictures of a few of mine and would love to see y’all’s houseplants!

I love beets!

Gonna have to try that.

I need to can some beef.

There is a really good recipe in the Blue Book-Beef in Wine Sauce.

I did that a couple of months ago. It’s really good.

Garlic count after big rainstorm is 14.

Hope to get more. I planted at least 60.

Maybe they are kind of trickling in.

I’ve given away and eaten all the persimmons I can. The rest of them are for the birds.

Thanks very much for posting my previous pix.
Wife and I are hunkered down for the winer, tho “winter” hasn’t arrive yet.
Son Jeremy is coming from Seattle for Christmas.

Lake water in the Lake of the Ozarks is still warm so we get a steam bath most mornings.

Plan for 2019 includes growing some sweet paprika to dry and grind to pack away for future cooking. The last paprika was raised in 2014 and we’re about out...

My wife and I love Persimmons but they don’t grow that great here so we have buy or bum them from friends a little further east of Eureka
