The Senate is important because that's where all the confirmation of judges happen. And now, with Ruth Bader Ginsburg likely retiring, the Republicans holding on to the Senate becomes even MORE important.

I tend to agree.

Before, he had two enemies, now he only has one.

The house is now a freak show to rival all the carnivals of the 50’s and 60’s. The only difference is that now you will be able to hear and see the freaks without admission charge. Stock up on popcorn before January. it will be a long (and entertaining) two years.

Trump focused on the senate, because without the senate the house can’t really do much.

Better to ensure you keep the Senate than to divide your efforts and lose both.

More likely he saw the House was a lost cause since even they didn’t act like they wanted to win and he invested time in retaining the Senate.

It was probably inevitable that the house would be lost since so many republican incumbents were quitting.

Look at Trumps campaign schedule and see who he campaigned for. Was it mostly for senators or for congressmen? A lot fewer senators to try and help compared to congress critters. Probably some RinO repubs did not want his help. Besides, Trump is a lot less likely to be impeached if the dems don’t control the senate. They can whine and bitch all they want.

Most of the lost house seats were due to retirements who feared being in the minority, or cowards who didn’t want Trump’s help. I’m sure he would rather have an R house than a D house.

The Bush League Republicans in the House engineered the loss of the House.
Almost 40 of them up and quit leaving open seats.
They steered money and resources only to other Cheap Labor Express stooges and cut off the patriots.

Not sure that he’s “happy” to lose the House, but it might’ve been a triage operation. The Senate is much more important, and the Turtle at least as of late has proven himself a far more savvy operator than the Vampire. If he had to choose which chamber to focus on, he chose well.

If the Republicans had kept the HOR, the feckless traitors probably would’ve voted for someone as bad as Ryan. We know that because they backstabbed us when they elected him to a second term as Speaker. Ryan was never on our side.

I don't think Trump wanted to lose the House but he definitely wanted to keep the Senate, which is why he put all his campaign energy there.

Reagan's most effective two years were the same two years the GOP also held the senate (Reagan NEVER had a House GOP majority). Now Trump will have at least four years of senate control, likely to hold through his second term as well.

In my opinion, it was the GOP establishment who lost the House. They sealed their doom by keeping lame-duck Trump-hater Paul Ryan as speaker and having no energy for the mid-terms. Lost opportunity for had the GOP jettisoned Ryan and brought in a new Speaker that supported Trump, it would have made a big difference.

But keeping the Senate is key and in a few weeks, we'll have a true majority as we will finally say good riddance to Flake, Corker and McCain who were always working for the Democrats. The only blight on the Senate (GOP-wise) is Mitt Romney.

Right on! In addition, Trump knows he will able to deal with Nancy and get more positive things accomplished than dealing with disingenuous Ryan.

Expect Ryan to join Kasich’s run for president in 2020. Neither will ever get above 5% approval.

You may be correct. Or perhaps the president only had time to devote to one, not both. I kind of expected the VP to do more campaigning, but that didn’t noticeably happen.

Getting the dead wood out of the House was like intelligent forest management; clear the underbrush and avoid a huge fire later. Too bad California doesn’t know how to manage forests.

Yes this was a brilliant strategy losing the House. Far better to have two parts of the govt than all three. True, it makes it look like trump is losing the down home voters who voted to dump 40 gop seats with a booming economy, lowest unemployment in decades, an America First policy, tough on immigration and a real foreign policy. The fact that voters ignored all these great signs of success to put in power Nancy pelosi, schiff, Maxine waters, fat slob nadler and the stupid negro racist Cummings means nothing because trumps strategy in losing the house just plays into his hands. What a victory!

What do you folks eat each day that leads you to believe that losing an election is good news?

If you don’t see the warning signs for 2020 we will lose everything for sure. Wishful thinking is no substitute for facts.

The President understood that Ryan was undermining the House race. There were 45 anti-Trump Republican incumbants that “took the money and ran”, which took a tremendous potential to keep the House, away.

He understood that the best place he could maintain his position in the OODA Loop was to grow the Senate, which he did. The establishment was able to insert their designated loser in Arizona.

Now, with 53-47 in the Senate, and Buzy Ginsburg with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, and the Turtle becoming adicted to winning, he can clean up the judiciary over the next two years while the RATS in the house self-destruct.

All planning for 2020!

Why would Trump who is a winner want to lose? That kind of thinking is pre-Trump political thought. The Republicans who bailed where obstructionists, he got rid of Ryan and could have worked well with McCarthy because The Freedom Caucus would be looking over his shoulder.

I disagree. Trump is not happy about losing the House.

It’s possible Trump did see it as you said. The House was lost, at least on paper using the math, so put more eggs into the Senate basket where it’s more critical and a much better chance of not only holding it but also increase the numbers to the R side so the hardcore leftists like Murkowski, Romney, and Collins to a degree can be offset so they can’t hold the senate and Trump hostage like Flake, Corker, and McCain did. -Spit- and Good riddance.

I think James woods tweet summed it up well. Trump is better off without Ryan a “friend” that made him look bad than an enemy Pelosi that makes him look good.

If there is legislative gridlock because the Dems control the House, then no legislation will move, and Trump will be justified in using executive actions to accomplish what needs doing. Also, he has he Senate and can therefore continue to put conservative judges on the bench, including to vacancies to the USSCT. Brilliant!
