NASA sources revealing that the space rock could end up engaged in not one, but a staggering 62 different potential impact trajectories with our planet — each of them waiting to sling the asteroid toward Earth over the next 100 years.
Known as asteroid 2018 LF16...
The first of these unnerving opportunities arises just five years from now — occurring on August 8, 2023. Other potential impact dates in the near future fall on August 3, 2024, and on August 1, 2025.

However, this is not to say that the asteroid will slam into Earth with absolute certainty. In fact — per the British media outlet — NASA estimates that the asteroid has a one in 30 million chance of crashing into our planet. This translates into a 99.9999967 percent chance of a miss in the event that asteroid 2018 LF16 does come wandering too close to home.This particular space rock ranks as a level “zero” threat on the Torino Impact Hazard Scale — meaning that its likelihood of a collision with Earth is nonexistent or close to nonexistent.
Nothing like a little journalistic panic to sell papers and web site hits.
How do they know the future trajectories of future objects that are hit by other future objects at some point and both have their future trajectories changed.
If it takes out LA, San Fran/Oakland, Seattle, Portland, Ore. Camden/Newark, NJ, or Tallahassee Fl., I’m good with that. Might even thrown in Denver and Boulder, Col. as secondary targets. Philadelphia needs a lot of “urban renewal”. Levelling the north part would be a great start except for Temple Un and their Hospital complex/medical school.
So many targets, so few really close asteroids. That’s not fair.

That’s the fly in the ointment. The one in Russia on February 15. 2013 hit the same day that another we knew about passed around 17000 miles from the Earth’s surface. We knew that one was coming close. We didn’t even know that other one existed until there was 440 kiloton explosion above Chelyabinsk, Russia.

If the hordes in the Central American caravan all rush the border and slam forcefully into one of President Trump’s wall sections it could save the planet.
This move would cause the earth to wobble by 10 to the minus 23 microns and over the year cause the planet to be several thousand miles from our projected orbital location in 2023 sans horde rush crash.
