Mayor Bill de Blasio cited his "socialistic impulse" in describing an ideal world where New York City government has control over all land and buildings in his city.
I think people all over this city, of every background, would like to have the city government be able to determine which building goes where, how high it will be, who gets to live in it, what the rent will be, de Blasio said in a wide-ranging interview with New York Magazine. I think theres a socialistic impulse, which I hear every day, in every kind of community that they would like things to be planned in accordance to their needs.

All they want is absolute power over property and people, including conduct and thought. But its not fascism, doncha know.
Thanks. And true what you said. Logic and reasoning are not natural traits of men. They must be taught, from an early age. Same with empathy. We’re not very far out of the trees. Only in the past 1000 years have logic and reasoning become elevated. Those skills can be lost in a few generations. How long will it take to get it back?
Perhaps it is too late. At least with Trump, we have a shot.
DeBlasio sees the writing on the wall....plunging NYC property values-with no future Wall St ‘boom” to rescue it as happened the last 20 years.
the only reason cities exist any longer is to coalesce power-generally to the benefit of Democrats.
There is no reason to aggregate human capital, financial capital or material any longer.
Cities have been on life support since the 1960s. As the national line of credit is exhausted, watch them all fold
No he hears it. I taught in NYC schools from 1986 till 2010. Teaching Social Studies almost every colleague was not just a Dem but an out and out socialist. There were two asst princilalas who were conservative, and in 25 years ONE other teacher. He was a libertarian and ironically was Gerrold Nadler’s twin brother. So imagine the 500 or so kids graduating from my JHS each year and multiple that by 1000. That gets you a population that wants free stuff. And if NYers don’t have a socialist they will accept a fascist like Bloomie to make yhe subways run on time and keep them safe from all the bad thi gs in life, like sugar, smoke, bad weather, transfats, and guns.
In East Germany during the Cold War, the totalitarian dictators had to build a wall around Berlin to prevent people from escaping to a better life.
But in cities like New York today, dictators like Mayor DiBlasio can do anything they want to their citizens — overtax them, abandon their streets to the homeless, and inflict hundreds of other indignities — and the citizens will remain — and not only remain, but also vote for ever-more Stalinesque dictators who will inflict ever-worse living conditions on them.
Why do 8 million people want to live in what amounts to a Communist prison?
Only 21% of eligible voters actually voted...
I'll wager that the percentage among this audience is orders of magnitude higher.
