High School Bans Expensive Winter Coats to Stop 'Poverty-Shaming'

A HIGH SCHOOL IN England has banned students from wearing expensive winter coats in an attempt to stop the shaming of those less fortunate or struggling financially. Woodchurch High School in Birkenhead, located in northwestern England, sent a letter to parents earlier this month announcing that the restriction would be enforced after Christmas. Rebekah Phillips, the head teacher at the school for students 11 to 16 years old, told CNN that she was "mindful that some young people put pressure on their parents to purchase expensive items of clothing," but that these jackets "cause a lot of inequality" between the students. "These coats cause a lot of inequality between our pupils," Phillips said. "They stigmatize students and parents who are less well off and struggle financially."

The people are brainwashed but it’s coming here too

*************

Its already here. There is a heavy indoctrination component in our public schools that reflects socialist ideals.

The school systems are run almost entirely by liberals. They have an agenda that goes well beyond educating our children. They exploit and mold their impressionable minds.

This indoctrination comes at the expense of learning essential skills and knowledge. Look no further than to the Millenials to see the effects of this brainwashing.

It’s a good lesson. Some people will spend 5X as much for something just because it has a designer label. The point is, you want a coat that will keep you warm. You’re going to meet people in life that like to flaunt their wealth and/or lack of common sense sooner or later. Might as well learn about it now.

Schools are already not allowed to give failing grades to the widdle snowflakes. Why bother to study if it doesn’t matter?

“Anyone can be broke from time to time, but poor is a way of life.”

Yes, today being poor is a career choice.

With the socialist welfare state providing cradle to grave support for the poor. Public school providing two meals a day to the children of the poor (some states do this year-round).

Being poor is easier than ever; no panhandling skills are required.

I went to a Catholic parochial school. We wore uniforms. I had to wear light blue shirt, blue serge pants and a blue serge tie. They gave us a list of local merchants who sold the appropriate clothing. We had to wear SHOES. no sneakers.

The girls had similar colors with some sort of jumper skirt Iand white blouse I think they called them
There was no arguments caused by leftist or right wing texts or pictures on you hoodie.

The nun did not take kindly to clothing individuality. I do think there is a time and place for clothing individuality. I don’t think grade/middle school is that place

I went to Catholic school a couple of years. Hated every day. In 1st grade, the teacher nun made us put all our shoes in a pile and then she redistributed them. I never got mine back.

My dad had died so mother was a single working mom struggling to make ends meet. She put me in expensive corrective shoes which the nun stole - thou shalt not steal. Mother had to buy another pair of expensive corrective shoes for me when she didn’t have the budget.

Same old, same old from the left. Instead of teaching people how to rise up from the lower rungs of the soci0-economic ladder, they force those who do well to hide it or pretend they are someone they are not.

Incidentally, the left not only doesn’t give a rat’s @$$ about the poor, they fight tooth and nail to keep them there.

“How did I know the principal was a woman”

More evidence of the reason to not vote for women in political office. They are more emotional than men. This is about this woman’s “sensitivity”. Of course there are some great women in political offices.

My kids have to get their school uniforms from the same vendor, Lands End, and every year they have a resale where the kids who have outgrown their clothes can donate them to the school for fundraising. There is some variability in colors and style but not so much as to be noticeable.

The “pick up” car lane is still a tell.

They have only banned a few specific brands. There are many other brands, and unbranded coats, that are even more expensive.
_______________

They’ll make the students bring in receipts for all their clothes. All expensive items will be banned. Even underwear.

Your story is heartbreaking. Why didn’t your mother make a stink. I never once took off my shoes in grade school (didn’t have gym till HS) Went grade 1-8 then 2 years of Catholic HS. The nuns would hit you if you messed up or didn’t get your work done. That was my biggest complaint. HS was a different thing. Any nice shoes, slacks, shirt and tie
And sports jacket. You could take off the jacket once seated in class. I became expert at tying a tie standing on a moving city bus. I cannot tie a tie while looking in a mirror to this day.

Why stop there? The sight of Aston Martins, Jaguars, Rolls Royces, and other pricey cars is an affront to every poor person who sees them. Shut down the manufacturing of all high-end cars now! Shut down all pricey restaurants now! Demolish all fine homes now! Abolish the royalty now!
