The Bayonne Bridge was shut down in both directions Thursday afternoon, making for a worse commute for those driving in the snow, sleet and rain.
The bridge was shutdown by Port Authority due to slippery conditions and several cars becoming stuck on the incline of the renovated bridge, which is steeper than it used to be, spokesman Joe Pentangelo said.

On the way back from the grocery store today, I hit the same conditions on some very mild slopes. 10 to 15 mph on a 55mph road.
I hit that situation again on an flat bit of un-plowed road close to home. Got to practice my fishtailing control early this year.
Lots of roads around here in Central/NW Jersey are as steep or steeper than the Bayonne Bridge approach. This is a known problem, schools shut early. Only heartless capitalists keep their employees working in such weather, so the rest of us can rush to buy bread and milk. Or early thanksgiving supplies, whatever.

I think PennDOT actually spoils people with their constant salting and deicing when they can get there. They shine in the winter; the rest of the year not so much.
Glad to see all those tolls going to good use.
Michael Corleone says hello. And your bridge is too steep.
They just don’t know how to drive in snow.
Now accommodates larger ships——which is the point.
.
when did that happen?
Most people in NJ don’t have snow tires. We don’t get enough snow to justify the cost and storage headache. Instead everyone has all-weather tires. So that means that for most people here, this small snow in Nov is no different than a deep one in Feb, from a tire perspective.
Carry chains.
Look at all the painting swabbies do to their ships and they are still rusty all the time.

A pretty good explanation of the process and improvements in lane width and like-such.
So what? It’s a Democrat controlled state like Jersey.
