A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a pregnant woman was killed with a crossbow at her home in east London.
Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo appeared at Barkingside magistrates court on Tuesday charged with the murder of Sana Muhammad and will appear at the Old Bailey on 15 November.
Muhammad, 35, was shot in the stomach at her home in Ilford at 7.40am on Monday. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11am. Doctors managed to deliver the baby boy, named Ibrahim, by emergency caesarean. Police said he was in hospital in a stable condition.
Her husband, Imtiaz Muhammad, told the Evening Standard: “The arrow went up into her heart but did not touch the unborn baby. The baby was due in four weeks. They operated with the arrow still in because it would have been too dangerous to take out.

What the UK needs is common sense crossbow regulation.
Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, says that you “have got to be prepared for these sorts of things” because it’s all “part and parcel of living in a big city”.
I was watching BBC America news this morning and some guy actually called for them to be added to the “Dangerous Weapons Act”. Pussies.
I think I read somewhere that the dead woman was the ex-wife of the shooter.
The Canon 29 of the Second Lateran Council, held in 1139 reads as follows:
29. We prohibit under anathema that murderous art of crossbowmen and archers, which is hateful to God, to be employed against Christians and Catholics from now on.
That said, the Council did not go so far as to prohibit the use of the crossbow against deer, moose, or mooslims—though I think that the use against non-Christian non-combatants, while not covered by the canon, would still be frowned upon.
(This Canon was later superseded—though possibly not until 1917.)
