My 1st car was a 1970 GTO, It was awesome.
Beautiful cars. Thank you. I really like the first generation cars. The 1968 version, not so much.
Please post photo of a 69 gto.
My first boyfriend in high school had a 69 goat. It was black with red interior.
It was loud and so cool. I remember driving with him playing the 8 track player in the car. 3 dog nite comes to mind. Great times. And we are still in touch after all these years. Thanks for the memories.

So my cousin pulled over to the side of the road and proceeded to steal Mickey's chrome carburetor cover..........LOL!
The Pontiac Tempest never had Grand in front of it. Now they may have considered the GTO as the Grand Tempest, but there was never a Tempest that was referred to as a Grand Tempest before the GTO. At least as far as I could find. The GTO did look like the Tempest. There was the Grand Am, but that was after the name Tempest was retired. There was also The Grand Prix, the Grand Safari (station wagon), and the Grand Ville
66 and 67, the most beautiful Body Styles. My friends Brother had a 67.
Stacked Headlights and the slotted Tail Lights. Simply gorgeous.
I thought it stood for “Girls Take Over”. At least that is what their ad said.
Oh yes, back in the good old days of slick vinyl seats and no one wore a seat belt. The song slip sliding away comes to mind, especially on those long flat bench seats!!
My best friend growing up bought a brand new ‘64 a little after I came home from the service. Never let me (or anyone else) drive it though! It looked just like the darker blue one pictured, two scoops on the hood.
My brother bought a GTO while he was in high school, having saved all the money he earned doing odd jobs and summer jobs. I think it was a ‘65. But he didn’t have it for long, as it “blew up” soon thereafter. He never owned another “muscle car” after that until he graduated from college and got a good paying job. Then he bought himself a Porsche 911. I was never into fancy cars, and the little car I have now suits me just fine.
The ‘66 GTO was the pinnacle in coach design. Dad bought a four-door hardtop (no center “C” pillar) Bonneville with a 389 CID V8 and a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed transmission. That’s was probably the best car I ever drove. Learning to drive on a huge land-yacht paid dividends later on because there was no car too large for me.
Dad’s brother bought a ‘67 GTO and commuted 85 miles each way from Ketchum, ID to Twin Falls, ID. Back then, there wasn’t much police presence on US 93 and ID75, so he could do the drive in under 70 minutes. What a great daily driver.
I had several friends that had GTO’s in high skrool. I remember riding down the interstate with a 140mph speedometer wrapped around, on bias ply tires no less.
Then there was the night when someone popped the hood on Robert’s Goat and spray painted his engine Chevy orange. He didn’t think it as funny as the perp, in fact was mad enough to consider committing bodily harm. It was the fastest thing in town and probably several towns around. There were dings on the hood where he threw pushrods through the valve covers.
I think you should be on this thread. With pix please. :)
