Bohemian Rhapsody is proving to be box office dynamite (with a laser beam?).
Twentieth Century Foxs foot-stomping biopic about the influential British rock band Queen is on track to sell an estimated $50 million in tickets at 4,000 theaters in the U.S. and Canada this weekend, far exceeding expectations and easily dethroning Halloween as the No. 1 film in North America. Starring Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) as Queens charismatic frontman, Freddie Mercury, Bohemian Rhapsody will notch the second biggest opening for a music biopic ever, behind 2015s Straight Outta Compton ($60.2 million).
Heading into the weekend, the film had been projected to debut in the $35 million to $40 million range. It cost about $52 million to make. Overseas, it will add about $72.5 million in ticket sales this weekend.

Changed their world.
Wow, that’s more than “First Man” had earned in total domestic rev in many weeks. I’m so glad that Canuck Gosling and his crappy acting skills flamed out.
A sanitized Freddie, but entertaining. He struggled with his homosexuality, and the film seemed to portray that honestly.
They didn’t make him to be a “hero” because of his behaviour. And the music is awesome. The timeline is compressed, not really accurate, but that is to be expected.
I did see them in concert as a teenager back in November of 1977. The "News of the World" tour. They were playing the old Boston Garden. They did put on a great show.
And occasionally a mass shooting.
Im jealous! Never saw them until after Freddy died, saw them with the lead from bad company, at the Hollywood Bowl, it was still awesome.
By his own admission, Freddie was omni-sexual. He said he’d sleep with anything, men, women, cats, ....
I find it interesting that the film starred and ethnic Egyptian portraying an ethnic Indian but most everybody thinks the both of them are/were white.
Go see it, great movie.
They briefly touched on his life of debauchery, but concentrated on his music and his band, I thought it was well balanced.
A gay bar fest would have turned me off. Besides he was much more than that
It is not a positive portrayal of the homosexual lifestyle.
Wow... interesting. No wonder the film critics panned it.
The music is great and Rami Malek deserves the Best Actot Academy Award for this portrayal of Freddie, but wont get it because the movie didnt portray gayness as all rainbows and unicorns.
Rami Malek just won the Best Actor Golden Globe and Bohemian Rhapsody just won Best Picture. ;-)
I still havent seen it! I dont get out much. Hopefully it will soon be on streaming somewhere.
I am pleased and surprised. Lets see what happens with the Oscars.
