A study from the Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at New York's Mount Sinai hospital found that from 1997 to 2008, peanut allergies tripled from 1-in-250 children to 1-in-70.

Among children, allergies to peanuts and other types of food continues to climb, but experts say there is some progress in controlling or preventing life-threatening reactions.

A food allergy, defined as a reaction that occurs when the immune system attacks harmless proteins, is an ailment that drugmakers are working to treat. One method involves treatments that introduce small amounts of peanuts to allergy sufferers, which gradually increases the amount to build toleranc e.

The exploding segment of the population suffering from certain food ailments is skyrocketing, and experts are stumped on the reasons why. A study from the Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at New York's Mount Sinai hospital found that from 1997 to 2008, peanut allergies tripled from 1-in-250 children to 1-in-70.

Yes. There is a much higher rate of peanut allergy in the USA as opposed to Israel which almost has a zero peanut allergy.

Our allergist is a well-known peanut allergy specialist. She has mentioned in her lectures that Israel starts daily peanut exposure in babies mouths at birth and they essentially have zero peanut allergy in Israel. You can google it.

Here’s a link which explains some of it.

Generally, I agree with you. Kids should not be kept in perfectly sterile environments.

However, our immune systems are NOT especially good at killing *viruses*. Viruses have developed incredibly sophisticated schema to defeat our immune systems.

I have zero idea what the peanut allergy is, but it isn’t a bacteria; and it probably isn’t a virus. Not knowing much about it; but the onset of the symptoms is so fast....and so serious.

Everyone is exposed to so many chemicals these days. That messes with immune systems. Especially those of children. Now we find out that Children are being exposed to massive dosses of Monsanto’s weed killer every morning when they eat there cereal. And then we wonder what is wrong.

Yes, I’ve read research that has found that children who are given peanuts in their first year (as early as 6 mos) have much less likelihood of developing a peanut allergy.

Not only does no one in my very large family have peanut allergies, I don’t know of anyone who suffers with this. I suppose we are very fortunate.

I opine: Leaky Gut Syndrome, making any likely allergenic substances more likely to enter blood stream and wreak havoc.

As to cause of LGS: excessive chronic exposure to lectins and other villi-damaging substances.

We ate razor blades.

What a bland diet! we ate blasting caps dipped in motor oil and lead shavings! My mom used the west Texas dust from the window sill to flavor the popsicles! I made a pie crust once, couldn't find any more graham crackers so used Comet to get the texture right! When we drove on long trips through Texas we would cook a pot roast and vegetables atop the manifold so we could stop for a roadside picnic! When we lived in east Texas we would go sailing and eat live shrimp, just bite the heads off, strip the shell, dip the wiggling tail in whiskey and swallow it....

Some of this is actually true....

Because people are not dying from those reactions any more and so the genetic predisposition to them is being passed on.

I know someone who was deathly, and I do mean deathly (worse sensitivities I’ve ever seen in my life) who was desensitized through a clinical study with sublingual drops.

The asbestos thing is way overblown.

Those with asbestosis were the ones who worked in factories for decades with little or no protection from the fibers.

Asbestos is a ROCK, that is found in the soil and air in the Adirondacks. When the wind is out of the northwest from the cliffs in Canada along the north shore, it brings across Lake Ontario asbestos dust that raises the asbestos levels in the outdoor air to a level that exceeds NY’s indoor air quality standards for the substance.
