My FIRST Vanity in the 20 years I've been here.
Allow me some slack!
When asked ‘HowU doing” I reply, with a big smile, —Not bad for the age and the mileage..Gets a quizzical look and then a grin most of the time.......
When blogs first came out, the Montgomery Advertiser newspaper, called my campus (Auburn University in Montgomery) office and wanted to speak to someone about blogs. So, the older, blue-haired receptionist, who didn't know anything about blogs, passed the phone to me, the new computer instructor, when I happened to be walking by.
They asked me if I thought blogs would be the next big thing. I told them no, I thought they were vain and a waste of time, and no way would regular people follow the musings of some overly self-important egotist.
They never called us back when it came to Internet or computer news again.
Youre now on the 1998 ping list too, Mariner.
Again, not sure what well ever do with this ping list, but youre on anyway!
Same for me in February of 1999 & I lurked till the Fall of 2003 and signed up.
Been a faithful FReeper ever since
Congrats.
LOL! Did you keep your job??
I actually lurker for the year 1998 before joining.
I saw Left Behind as a TV miniseries when I was deployed to Central Asia. It was spooky, and I thought to myself, “Sure do hope that doesn’t start while I’m here in Uzbekistan!”.
I thought the End Times were nigh in 1968 with Vietnam, race riots & burning cities, mainline churches going mad, Chicago Dem convention riots, etc. I studied the Book of Revelation closely in those days.
With the election of PDJT for whom I voted, the leftie madness of fifty years ago seems to be returning with a vengeance. Worse, the more I think about it. Then, guys just wanted to avoid the draft & get laid by hippie chicks.
Now, the Left just wants to destroy anything & anyone who gets in the way of their grasp for total state power. It’s Stalinistic.
Newbe. Over twenty years and still freeping . Although not like the Clintoon years.
Last time I gave FR money, I was banned almost immediately afterwards, for expressing then-offbeat ideas that have since become conventional wisdom. So I no longer give FR money, because God forbid I am right on something yet again and have the audacity to say so, I have no assurance whatsoever that I won’t be banned again right after I pay up.
If I felt I really had free speech here it would be a different story. I’m a loyal, true-blue American who believes in the rule of law and the principles of the Declaration, so I shouldn’t feel afraid to express here anything that I would want to express. Yet I do for fear I may be right again well before the general consensus is ready to accept it, and knowing that the standard practice is to ban those ideas.
Gonna adjust the magnetic declination on my compass and pack the topo maps...
See you there.
Yeah. But no, no job repercussions.
I mean, it was just some news journalist asking my opinion.
I taught about networking and operating systems.
What the hell did I know about blogs, or nascent social media that hadn’t even become a “thing” yet? This was in the early myspace and Napster days.
I was wrong, though. But that happens all the time.
Hmm. Ive been here 20 years like you. I have never felt the feelings you describe. And I have posted some pretty outlandish things.
I find real comradery here at FR. If you dont, maybe this is the wrong website for you?
:)
Nope, I left a little before that. I miss being there sometimes.
As I mentioned, my purpose for being here nowadays is to transmit ideas between the older and younger generations of conservatives who clearly aren’t talking with each other much. I am not and will never again be the kind of FR loyalist I was before being censored for speaking my mind.
"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (Take 9 +) - The Beatles
"It was 20 years ago today
Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play..."
I’ve got you beat by about two months. Happy Anniversary.
