Finally, some positive news for iconic guitar company Gibson as their devastating slip into bankruptcy is set to come to an end.
For over 100 years one of the forewords in the guitar industry was Gibson. Their iconic guitars have been played by some of the biggest rock stars all around the world and, for some considerable amount of time, it looked as though the company was in ruins having declared for bankruptcy.
....it has now been revealed that the global investment company KKR will become the majority owner of Gibson. To coincide with the news, the new investors have instantly appointed James Curleigh, who will become president and chief executive officer. With the likes of Mars and Levis on his CV, Curleigh said in a press release: As a musician, I have always treasured my Gibson guitars and I have the utmost respect for the iconic Gibson brand and those who choose to play Gibson guitars.

Sounds a lot like the General Motors saga. Obama DOJ drives them out of business and screws past owners and somehow a bunch of lib investors end up owning it.

Is that SG bass relic’d or is it a true relic? Can’t tell from a photo....

You can buy a really nice Tokai Les Paul made in Japan for a fraction of the cost of a Gibson, and they usually play better out of the box. Have a Love Rock from 2005 that is killer.

Nice. Own seven stretching from a 54 L-50 to a 2009 SG. Favorite is a 65 J-200. I’m a bass player, but my taste has always been Fender for the bottom end.

Yeah, I have a stray too. MIM, plays like silk. Have a $400 epi for my outside acoustic. I don’t take my big guns out in the Summer humidity in FL. Big Fender app guy too.

Hell their standard Les Paul is $3500...ridiculous. just way out if the range for working musicians. I paid $700 for a flat finish Gibson Les Paul Studio that was equppied with the same electronics as the $3500 shiny Standard. The only reason to buy the $3500 Standard is if you want to look cool on stage.
I think the one I bought sells now for about $1000. If you close your eyes there is no way to tell it from the Standard. Its just not very pretty.
And yes it is made in the USA.

Is there a better line of guitars in the world?
I think not.
This traditional art must be preserved and I’m glad to see it has been.

LOL! When we were still in FL mine had to go out year round. Sweatin' at the Tiki Bar from March to Nov. Sometimes evening gigs, other times afternoon. HOT! 🌡🚿🏖🌞

my 50-year old son is in sacramento plays in two bands as the gigs come up. Works full time. Just a hobby, but I think he’a serious musician and an ok singer.

🎸👍🏼🎤. At 71, I don't want to committ to doing gigs. Going to jam sessions around town is good. Not many going on since Summer's over. Glad he' s having a good time with it. I'll do back up vocals but not lead vocals. Even though Mrs rktman says I should.

Gibson = overpriced crap. There are many better ways to spend one’s guitar purchasing dollars.
