Game 3 was the 12th World Series game to go 12 innings and the fourth World Series Game to go 14 innings. It is the only World Series game to go 18 innings. Here are the longest World Series games in history by innings played:
2018 Game 3: Red Sox vs. Dodgers still playing in the 18th inning.
1916 Game 2: (Brooklyn) Dodgers beat Red Sox 2-1 in 14 innings.
2005 Game 3: White Sox beat Astros 7-5 in 14 innings.
2015 Game 1: Royals beat Mets 5-4 in 14 innings.
Furthermore, Game 3 is also the longest World Series game by time of game and it's not close either. Game 3 is already over the eight-hour mark as of this writing.
Here are the longest World Series games in history by time of game:
2018 Game 3: Red Sox vs. Dodgers in eight hours and counting.
2005 Game 3: White Sox vs. Astros in five hours and 41 minutes.
2017 Game 5: Dodgers vs. Astros in five hours and 17 minutes.
2015 Game 1: Royals vs. Mets in five hours and nine minutes.
2000 Game 1: Yankees vs. Mets in four hours and 51 minutes.
Does anyone care about pace of play during a very exciting World Series game? Didn't think so.
The ball in that logo looks a bit like the Russian Sputnik I satellite.
In those 18 innings, he allowed nine hits, two runs -- only one of which was earned -- two walks and 12 strikeouts.Jul 19, 2014 ------

I could not find the actual photo of the good luck bananas last night being hung from the Dodgers dugout late in the game ........ but this is similar.

LOL.
See post # 42.
Vernon Law pitched 18 innings himself, was relieved by Bob Friend for one inning......... and Friend got the WIN.

And they wonder why baseball TV rating are down. "I know, let's add even MORE commercials..."
I mute Joe Buck-———and often much of the game——I enjoy watching but the incessant stats DRIVE ME NUTS.

What are you and Trump trying to do ....... start up the Cold War again????
;-)
LOL ......... true.
It certainly now is a different series.
I thought the Dodgers would get swept. This changes everything. If the Dodgers win tonight, it’s anybody’s series.
And I think national interest in the Series will greatly increase now.

Imagine being in a dendist's chair for all that time with a lot of bone-head baseball plays.
It was gross ...... except for the Dodger centerfielder's excellent throw home ...... where the dumb-ass Boston runner didn't even slide.
But it was a good game for sleeping for two or so hours at a time, waking up, taking a piss, checking the score, and the ABSURD # of pitchers (15,) and then going back to a rerun of Sean Hannity or Laura Ingraham.

FWIW, the last time I made this observation was in 2004 during that epic Yankees-Red Sox ALCS ... when I pointed out that the Yankees had a serious problem despite their 3-0 lead. If I remember correctly, there was a rainout early in the series that eliminated an off day -- and as result, every pitching matchup was in Boston's favor for the remainder of the series.
Within two-three years you can expect MLB to permit electronic technology that will eliminate the need for catchers' signals altogether: the pitcher will announce his next pitch into a small microphone, which the catcher will hear through his earpiece.
Just came across your post——I’ve been bitchin’ about the foul ball delays for years——drives me nuts.

Careful analysis of game length has revealed the biggest culprit in longer games is the longer time between individual pitches.
‘Pitch clocks’ are already in use in the minors. It will come to MLB in the next collective bargaining contract.
Mr RooRoo is a die-hard World Series fan, but he gave up at the end of the 15th inning. I was asleep by the end of the 8th inning, I was tired.
Relievers seem to take the longest. I think the pitch clock is 15 seconds in the minors. Some of those guys take 35-45 + seconds, and of course it seems even longer in the post season. I think the pitching changes are a big part of longer games as well but I am not sure how to mess with that.

No wonder I fell asleep.
