A couple of tourists are in big trouble in Thailand for spraying graffiti on an ancient wall in Chiang Mai.
The duo, a British man and Canadian woman were caught on video marking up the Tha Phae Gate.
The Brit, 23 year- old Lee Furlong has admitted to committing the crime, spraying the words Scouser Lee on the gate. BBC.com says that he would be charged with vandalizing an archaeological site.
The other artist involved in the crime, Brittney Schneider was arrested and charged with vandalism for spraying the first letter of her name on the gate.
BBC reports that the duo admitted committing the crime, saying they did it because of the thrill and they were also a little bit drunk.
CCTV from a cafe close by allegedly recorded the crime. It shows four people approach the gate at around 4:00. Two of them went up to the gate while it shows one start spraying the paint. The other two people in the video were not arrested.
Furlong and Schneider now face up to 10 years in jail and/ or a fine of up to one million baht which comes to a little over $30,000 US.
You arent in the U.K. mates! The Thai government isnt very sympathetic to your acting like a couple of pampered SJWs.
I just checked Google Flights. You can get round trip airfare from London to Bangkok for under $450. Adjusted for inflation, flyings never been cheaper.
That comment is so true. When I lived there, the women looked like horses, but so many of them were so fit they looked great anyway. This was in the tail end of Thatcher’s England... before the downfall.
The men were all smokin’ hot of course (at least to this then-college coed.) All skinny, efete David Bowie look alikes.
Sigh, my beloved country is gone.
Perhaps if the cut off both hands of the perps...
Hope they aren’t going to Bang Kwang.
I suspect that their being bored, pampered "trust fundies" or such is at least in part responsible for their irresponsibility / wanton flauting of local laws / extreme narcissism.
People who get up at 4 a.m. to crack eggs into a pan before driving 50 miles to the job site in pouring rain don't have time for this sh*t.
Regards,
I was just happy that they were not Americans.
The woman is from Canada.
“Nope, cant produce any sympathy.”
I would rather not see Thailand spend many dollars on their incarceration for many years. A much better punishment would be caning. Caning is short and brutal, actually very brutal. It rips your backside apart. In extreme instances it will kill you.
Give these two miscreants a choice. Several years in prison or caning. If they choose caning about half way through they would doubt their decision.
See my post # 30 about caning.
As far as I know, Thailand does not use caning as punishment for criminals.
Just damn. I misspelled caning in two posts.
No. Lock them up. Hope they get the full 10 years.
I've spent a lot of time in Thailand, to include living there for about 2 1/2yrs. IIRC, it is the responsibility of the family to provide food for them.
I'm also surprised that the locals, even though they are some of the nicest people on earth, didn't administer some justice before they were arrested. They do not take kindly to slights on their King, their religion, or their historic sites.
My best guess, is that those two idiots will spend a couple months in a Thai prison before being sent home with "never to return" stamps in their passports.
Lucky for me they never caught me spray painting my initials on the pyramid. :0)
I was about to post the same on “artist”...
The look on her/its face is funny to me.
I don’t have a big problem with this.
