Just a week after Marvel announced at New York Comic Con that Star Wars author Chuck Wendig would be penning a Darth Vader miniseries, Wendig says that hes been removed from the series as well as from an unannounced Star Wars book after he was temporarily suspended from Twitter earlier this week.
In a series of tweets, Wendig noted that he was fired from the remainder of the series because of the negativity and vulgarity that my tweets bring... It was too much politics, too much vulgarity, too much negativity on my part. A Marvel spokesperson confirmed that Wendig had been fired but wouldnt comment further on the record. Weve reached out to Disney and Penguin Random House for additional comment and clarification and will update this post if we hear back.

So, heres a thing that has happened I just got fired from Marvel. Taken off issues 4 and 5 of SHADOW OF VADER, and taken off an as-yet-unannounced SW book.
This might be a long thread, so apologies in advance.
Wendig went on to outline a long-running campaign of harassment that accompanied 2015s Aftermath, the first novel in the new canon set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Fans of the defunct expanded universe were upset that his books were replacing the long-running series, while others took issue with his outspoken, progressive political views. Wendig has written for Marvel before, writing the comic adaptation of The Force Awakens, and he wrote issues of Marvels series Hyperion.
Earlier this week, Wendig reported that he discovered on Monday that his Twitter account had been temporarily suspended, which lasted for five hours. He suspects it was due to a tweetstorm about civility in the aftermath of the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh that went viral. It earned him the ire of numerous right-wing personalities, along with threats and calls for him to be fired from his Star Wars gigs, misconstruing his tweets as a literal call for violence.

@ChuckWendig Replying to @ChuckWendig To conclude: this is really quite chilling. And it breaks my heart. I am very sad, and worried for the country I live in, and the world, and for creative people all around. Courage to you all.
I have a dire fear this is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
Wendigs firing sets a disturbing precedent for creators, and it specifically recalls the firing of James Gunn from his directors position on Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after a right-wing troll campaign churned up some offensive tweets that he posted a decade ago. While Wendig notes that this appears to have been Marvels call, there are stark similarities and a concerning takeaway: entertainment companies will cave to bad-faith campaigns if the volume is cranked up high enough. While a source close to the matter noted that online campaigning for Wendigs ouster from the franchise didnt figure into the decision, its impossible to see those circles claim it as anything but a victory.
You know of Comicsgate? Do you know the name Cecil?

I do! Nerkish had better watch his back... lol
Hellooooo. Thats awesome. Never thought these two worlds would collide.
Nice.
Yacht Rock played it regularly this past time.
I saw that in the YouTube comments. I’ll have to check it out.
Thanks.
One of the newer comments is mine.
When liberals share explicit threats of rape and death, just joking gets them off.
When conservatives use non-threatening language or figurative references (like bulls-eyes on maps), liberals say it must be a literal threat, silence or literally threaten the conservatives.
Liberals are learning from Muslims. Any speech or behavior contrary to their sacred dogma is equated with a literal threat against the sacred believers, so you can hurt and kill the unbelievers.
That’s what “you’re invalidating my existence” means - that you’re hurting them, trying to kill them. That disagreeing with them is literally hurting them, so they are allow to hurt you literally.
What exactly did he say?
Thank you. A general web search just said it was vague vulgar tweets but not the actual hate speech by this liberal bully.
Yeah - took me awhile to dig it up too. I had seen a comment describing the nature of the tweet but not the actual tweets.
Some people should not be on social media.
What happened to “Think before you speak”?

No kidding, and it doesn’t help that his Aftermath trilogy was complete crap. Heck, he even ruined Palpatine as a character with that whole “Contingency” thing where he has his own Empire, not to mention the Galaxy as a whole, be blown up in a post-mortem tantrum, which is despite the whole thing about him, oh, I don’t know, trying to goad Luke AND Anakin in two separate instances to commit cold-blooded murder against him specifically to turn them to the Dark Side, or heck, the fact that Palpatine before dueling Yoda actually seemed to look FORWARD to Vader surpassing even himself in overall power. He will not be missed.
Too bad they haven’t fired Rian Johnson, Kathleen Kennedy (at least, I don’t THINK they’ve done that yet) or JJ Abrams for similar damages to the brand.
Boo hoo.
They screwed Star Wars. Darth Emo isn’t scary or formidable. Now Emperor Shaddam and Baron Harkonnen from Frank Herbert’s Dune, were formidable and took Paul Atreides years to amass enough power to overcome both. The same was true for Palpatine and Darth Vader in Star Wars. So many men in the entertainment industry are cucked.
