Talk about a headache.
When Mount Vesuvius erupted, the explosion caused such extreme heat that victims' skulls exploded, their blood boiled and their muscles, flesh and brains were replaced with ash, according to a new study.
"New investigations on the victims' skeletons unearthed from the ash deposit filling 12 waterfront chambers have now revealed widespread preservation of atypical red and black mineral residues encrusting the bones, which also impregnate the ash filling the intracranial cavity and the ash-bed encasing the skeletons," the study's abstract reads.

Yeah, they think they know everything...
Yes, right after Trumpius Maximus was reelected as Imperator, handily defeating Felonia Cankelius Gigantis in a rematch of their earlier contest.
I think that is generally what happens you heat up blood from 97.5C to 1800C in three seconds or less.
Whoa...were you dead before your skull exploded? Or was it the skull explosion that killed you.
And I thought getting mauled and eaten by grizzly bears was the worst possible way to go. I think I need to update my “worst way to go” hierarchy.
Exactly.
Justice Brett Vesuvius Kavanaugh.
The libs may not remember; I hear he likes beer...
I would bet the former. But either option would suck pretty bad.
97.5 F not C
WHY ISN’T THIS IN BREAKING NEWS?? OMG!
You’re right. :)
Sounds rather quick and painless. The poor blighters didn’t know what hit them. Them that died quick were the lucky ones.”
Mt. Vesuvius is still an active volcano.
Mr RooRoo and I toured Pompeii, Vesuvius is large, imposing and scary, looming over Pompeii and Naples.
If Vesuvius errupts again like it did previously, its predicted that 600,000 are in the red zone who will be violently killed. Thats a lot of brain explosions.
97.5 C is almost at the boiling point. Normal body temperature is around 37 C.
Vesuvio did erupt in 1944. Italy was under US occupation. Ash from the crater literally caused USAF bombers to crash from volcanic ash being sucked into their engines.
We ascended it up to the crater in 1969. It seemed to be daring us to climb further. Nowadays drone photography takes one into the volcanic center in complete safety.
What’s scariest about Vesuvio’s power is how the catastrophic burial of Pompeii and Herculaneum was completely forgotten for many centuries until their rediscovery only two hundred years ago. Their excavations are only now bringing back to life those who lived before the disaster.
You’ll have several weeks or months of warnings and earthquakes. You’ll be able to get far enough away to die from starvation and cold just like the rest of us. ;-)
Well the good news is they never knew what happened. It was over quickly.
Coastal West as well. Maybe 100 miles inland maximum.
