I heard one translation of “petard” was “fart”.
Of course for some, they might be both explosion and fart.

Thanks...We all should keep in mind this fellow was a man with a family.
As incongruous as his death is, we shouldn’t inject humor into it.
I fall prey to it on occasion.

I know... Too bad you can’t unsend. I also regret being flippant about the loss of that man’s life.

“A petard was an explosive device.”
Yes originally, but in common usage has come to be a figure of speech that means anything that does someone in by their own foibles.

“Awful way to die, sincere prayers to the gentleman’s family.”
Sort of like Steve Irwin catching a stingray barb through his wishbone.

Agreed, and it is probably not a stretch to say (even if it does sound hackneyed) that he died doing what he loved, and had provided a good deal of enjoyment and entertainment to a lot of people.

If you want to reenact Knights wouldn’t you go to England or France or someplace that they actually had Knights?

"If you want to reenact Knights wouldnt you go to England or France or someplace that they actually had Knights?" Believe it or not, there are pockets of US Civil War reenactors in Europe.
