Jordan can resign when he is falsely accused of sexual assault.
Whether you agree with his views on Kavanaugh’s rebuttal or not, he, Peterson, lays out his thoughts in a logical manner. Many may disagree, but he looks at it from a little different viewpoint than through the American political lense. I would hope that members of FR here would read his entire article before any discussion.
Sigh...another quick reader. Good for you that you were able to distill all of Peterson’s multi page thoughts so quickly. Obviously you read the part where he did not say he was correct in that thinking...of course you did...
People jumping to the wrong conclusions with misinformation is a mainstay at FR.
Let me re-phrase that...the part where Peterson says he may not be correct in this “solution,” only that it is a solution/option. You got that distinction, right?
That streak of yellow is really wide.
He could admit he is in favor of cutting and running every time there is adversary.
But he lacks the courage to even do that.
I will come back and talk later....I have to do some voice work for the next few hours... Hope every one reads the article.
Having listened to Peterson many hours, I was not disturbed by his tweets. He is nothing, if not honorable. I disagree with some of his stuff, but I have a good deal of respect for him, and I have enough discernment to be able to consume the healthy information he delivers, and spit out the junk. I would recommend him unreservedly, to any and all.
Jeez what a load of blather. Why not just say, “I may have spoken too soon” and then two paragraphs about how things look now, after both Trump and Kavanaugh, as well as McConnell and Grassley, have all demonstrated their manly stamina, principles and courage.
Disappointed in Jordan for all this “yes, but”, tap dancing and navel gazing from one who is usually a proponent of personal responsibility.
I would like also like to point out that I am not claiming that the opinion I put forwardthe alternative I offeredis correct.
But it is an option.
Perhaps he should consider it.
As a "thought experiment."
Since he is so big on considering all options and all.
Anything less is a complete sham. Sweeping this thing under the rug is just as bad as the original crime.
Seems to be based on a very weak premise—the premise that public support of Kavanaugh is low.
First, if it is low it won’t hold.
Second, individuals Justices are not regarded to any meaningful extent over time by most of the public and they remain out of public view.
You seem to be satisfied only by your own interpretation of what Peterson was saying. Most of us can tell that it was a hypothetical exercise. The danger lies in helping to construct a parallel universe where, even after this bruising, blistering Battle For Brett, even after his confirmation, there may STILL be a legitimate way to remove him from that position! My unseen message to him is; please DO NOT give the Dems any hope in undoing this court appointment! They will cling to any wisp of a chance, no matter how weak.
Academically, he is correct, but for the average conservative, that’s the last thing we want to hear right now, that the Dems will have yet one last unpopped air bubble of optimism. Most of us simply want that battle (of the Supreme Court) to be OVER. At least for a while.
I read this earlier tonight. I think, on this one, Dr. Peterson had a clunker. But he’s never claimed infallibility, and I’ve never ascribed it to him.
Thanks so much for posting this. When I read about his tweet, it didn’t sound at all like Peterson because of his adage:
dont apologize if you havent done anything wrong.
He was posed with a question indicating that either result was bad and was seeking a middle ground, a 3rd alternative.
I agree that it was more problematic, and the correct response would probably have been not to accept the premise that being confirmed and assuming the post was unacceptable. That is one of the straw men that leftists always use, to assume a false premise and ask one to defend it. But it was a 3rd alternative and that is what was requested of him. He is also right that twitter was the wrong place for a thought experiment.
I’m not sure that Dr. Peterson is fully aware of the whole Alinski strategy employed by the left. Any meager compromise, blink or flinch is taken as an invitation for more violence, vitriol, deceit and outright criminality.
When considering the left, he is much more inclined to consider them as “classical liberals”, which very accurately describes our founding fathers. That is not what we are dealing with. He is aware of the destructive malice of leftists in academia, but does not seem to realize that the political leftists make the academic leftists look like pussy cats.
If you listened to Peterson for five minutes, you would NOT say that. He has been threatened by his own government, and pummeled mercilessly by liberals and other psychologists/psychiatrists/philosophers, for his refusal to be forced to be politically correct. He is a brilliant man, who also happens to be a faithful husband (”marriage is for life”), and devoted father. He’s as deep as a well, but is able to explain profundities so that even I can understand them. He is wildly popular, and though that alone, is of little significance to me, he is actually contributing to millennials learning a thing or two about truths, which have been withheld from them by their professors and other leftists.
Peterson is absolutely brilliant within his “lane”, which is as an academic psychologist looking at the destructiveness of certain ideologies, and how to combat them mostly on an individual level. But as far as politics go, particularly American politics, not sure he’s really thought things through very far, and this tweet was absolutely idiotic, even as a “thought experiment”.
A man who doesn't have his head still up his butt would say "my head was up my butt."
It's one of those things where you transcend it by accepting it.
It’s the classic difference between what a person could do, and what they should do. Within the boundaries of logic, a person could do many different things. Within the framework of ethics or conscience, one choice often presents itself as what one should do.
But sure, Kavanaugh could have sworn off the legal career altogether and taken up the life of a Buddhist monk in a remote cave. I’ll bet he gave that option a bit of thought too. :)
