The Big 12 may not have a bigger stage the rest of the regular season than it did on Saturday afternoon. The Red River Showdown actually resembled a Shootout, the old name before it got changed in the name of political correctness. It was quintessential Big 12 93 points, 1,033 yards and a breathtaking ending when Texas won, 48-45, on a field goal with nine seconds left.
Texas pulling the upset of the No. 7 Sooners, however entertaining, may have been the worst result for the long-term playoff viability of the Big 12. The Big 12 team best positioned for the playoff is its only remaining unbeaten West Virginia. But the Mountaineers havent been tested, as their best win is a road victory at Texas Tech. With No. 9 West Virginia having to come to Texas on Nov. 3, its reasonable to consider Texas the Big 12 favorite.

I was listening to ESPNU on satellite radio. The show had OU great Tony Casillas as a guest co-host. Too bad Mr. Casillas has no more eligibility left because the OU defense could have used him. Once again the OU defense lays an egg in a big time game.
Another week another absolute 'Bama beat down. This time they scored 65 on the Roasted Hogs. 'Bama has failed to score over 50 points once against TAMU where I think Saban let off the pedal against his former assistant.
U Washington's chances of a playoff berth took a huge hit as Mississippi State ran over Auburn.
In the battle of the Swamps the Gators beat the Bayou Bengals. Looks like the World's Largest Cocktail PartyFloridaGeorgia game will be meaningful.
Sandman lasted for one half as Notre Dame easily pulled away from the Hokies. How crazy will college football be if two of the most hated teams with the most arrogant fan bases in the country Texas and Notre Dame make the playoffs. If those two teams meet it will be Nazi Germany v. Soviet Union.
the B12’s singular hope for the CFB playoffs is and has always been OU- unless somehow Georgia losses two games this season or Clemson/Ohio State don’t win their conference titles the B12 is toast- as it should be...

Orgeron was due to blow it...it just came a little later in the season than most expected...
While I’m an admitted Bama fan, I really think they can be the 1st 15-0 team as long as Tua remains healthy.
Kind of seems like there’s Alabama then the rest of college football. However, it cannot be taken for granted when they play the Tigers. Auburn can be 0-11 and still beat the tide, and the top of LSU’s wish list is also to beat Bama.
OU has been suspect since game 2.
OSU will ag out as usual.
What a STUPID question. A question written by someone other than a d*clkess agitator would be, “Could the Big 12 go unrepresented in the BCF?” But that wouldn’t be clickbait for the publicity whores at Yahoo.
No major-conference team is “locked” out after 5 games... unless they’ve got three losses. Is Duke going to make it to the BCS? Highly, highly unlikely. But their fate is still ENTIRELY in their own hands. With highly unlikely wins at Miami and Clemson, of course they’d get in. Even Syracuse can get in... if they can beat everyone else.
The Fantasy Playoff is a joke. Until they have a real playoff where every team has a chance it is not a playoff at all.
Take the Big 5 conferences and add 3 more.
Count me surprised at Iowa State’s victory over OSU.
Deeply pleased with my Hawkeyes in Minneapolis...
I dont normally get into Football anymore but Im thinking its time for the Longhorns to take the National Championship (again).
No, it never ends with you people.
Iowa State is no joke. How long that will last is another story. They are a young coach story and he’ll get snapped up before long.
You like this system? What a joke. ESPN will choose 4 teams and you have to like it. Why not 2 teams? Why not 1 and be done with it? It is a fantasy.
The U of Iowa pays Kirk over a million $ per year.
Iowa State could do the same...
Props to Texas for coming up with an outstanding performance especially on offense yesterday. So they're still in the picture, notwithstanding an early season loss to Maryland. WV might be worth keeping an eye on as well...
The only info I have to share here is that... let's put it this way... Bob Stoops is a fine gentleman and was an excellent football coach when he first arrived here. IMO he became complacent before many years had passed. Although he did the right thing and retired from coaching, he still has a certain influence at the University... he actually has more say in a certain uh, personnel situation than our current head coach has, to the detriment of the program.
Until that gets resolved in a responsible manner OU is insignificant in the national championship picture, and is no more than a very long shot for the conference championship at this point. What an embarrassment.
Time for some hard decisions to be made in Norman by people who are paid the kind of money to make hard decisions, and time for some wheeling and dealing behind the scenes to put together a nice buyout package for somebody. One would hope that people's phones would be ringing even this afternoon.
Do what's got to be done, appoint someone into an "interim" position, and finish the season, win or lose. At least when you lose you can learn something, if you're paying attention.
Then turn the page...
I preferred rivalries and Bowl games that had certain conferences against another conference. This is supposed to be college. It worked fine for a pretty long time...
I think the problem for the Big 12 is, it looks like Notre Dame has a clear path to an undefeated season AND theres a reasonable chance an AAC team finishes undefeated. If UCF runs the table again itll be very interesting to see what the committee decides.
Bottom line is there probably wont be room for four major conference teams, and its highly likely the SEC and Big Ten will each get a slot.
That’s showbiz. College Football is still the best in my book by far.
Alabama has the best team in the college ranks. As a Georgia fan I am thinking that the only way to defeat Bama is to hire a witch doctor to give the Bama players the hebegebies.
I still miss the Big 8.
