An alarming number of NYC students have scored three or more zeroes for their writing answers on the statewide English exams, a new study reveals.
On the English Language Arts exams between 2013 and 2016, in addition to multiple-choice questions, students had to read nine or 10 short stories or texts, then write responses aimed at showing their ability to think critically and cite evidence to support their answers.

The worst part is that many of these kids will go to college.
Kids were stupified by these questions,
They were stupified BEFORE the questions.
I’d call that educational success - they have the knowledge and critical reasoning skills needed to vote democrat for life. And beyond.
This is supposedly the big goal in education.
The problem is, this is exactly what leftists DON'T want kids to be able to do. They grow up without these skills. This can be see in the whole Kavanaugh process.
You show them one fact, the ONLY fact you need to decide the Ford case: "Every single one of her witnesses refutes her story has no memory of the gathering in question or says it didnt happen, and this includes a lifelong friend." - John Nolte
Game over. None of the rest is important. Even stupid people should be able to understand this. Our education system talks "critical thinking" but it doesn't. They teach "emotional thinking," which is no thinking at all. "Oh, she looks and sounds so credible." So does every skilled actor playing a role.
Feeling-based, rather than fact-based thinking. It allows them to continue to believe lies even when they are shown the facts. "Hands up, don't shoot." "I can't breathe." "Kavanaugh is a rapist." "Trump is a (fill in some lie)."
It’s New York Jake
NYC has much to be proud of, starting with a Communist Mayor and the NYT.
Usually, but they are talking about the "writing section". In that context it makes sense.
It would have been better it they had said, "An alarming number of NYC students have scored three or more zeroes for their writing section answers on the statewide English exams."
“The worst part is that many of these kids will go to college.”
Heh, and we know the “academic majors” those will pursue.
And, of course, post graduation, they will be hired by Soros to wear pussy hats, work for CNN, and act like the idiots they are and always will be.
The students are not taught to think critically or to write or speak English. So the Exams are obviously racist and must be altered to get the desired results.
They are not taught correct English because that would suggest that their English as used at home and in the street is somehow deficient which would be racist. Their home grown English is just as valid as Etonian speech. Any other view is bigoted and racist.
You are obviously bigoted against wome. Gynephobic?
I think the author was referring to the answers in the ‘writing’ section of the test. That’s why she referred to writing answers.
I won't be surprised if they declare the test racist and get rid of it, like you say.
Well clearly there’s only one solution to the problem: The exams need to be dumbed down so they can pass the test and avoid having their self esteem hurt.
That example of a zero is perfectly understandable. It translates as “In New York Sey got invited to a party. Sey was asked because he was going to get an honest dollar bill.”
The kid will go far as a Soros employee.
Statewide, many teachers and parents have complained the tests were ill-suited to a childs age and development: The result was 8-and 9-year-olds sitting for hours upon hours in frustration, crying and in some cases becoming physically sick, said Carl Korn, a spokesman for the state teachers union.
Obviously, we need more Common Core and safe spaces from testing activities that test Common Core efficacy.
“I think its practically impossible to write well if you dont read. A lot.”
100%. And phonics is faster, better, cheaper than anything else. No kid should be promoted beyond the 3rd grade until they are reading well enough.
Spelling and grammer are nowhere near as important as reading. They evolve naturally from it anyway.
And teachers should be tested regularly for reading, writing, and basic arithmetic. Like every 2 years.
Akisha can’t read, write, subtract, or talk.
Oh, a third grader. I thought it was another example of Chrissy Ford’s writings.
The real waste of money is sending any kid to most liberal arts universities.
Also, apprenticeship programs in the blue-collar trades need intelligent people who are capable of competent work.
