Gassy cows are bad for the planet; could seaweed diet help?
AP ^ | 9/30/2018 | PATRICK WHITTLE

The smelly reality is that cows will always pass gas. But if farmers had more access to seaweed, cow flatulence might just stink a little less for the planet.

That’s the thesis of a New England-based aquaculture company which is launching a drive to become the worldwide leader in an emerging effort to thwart climate change by feeding seaweed to cows.

The concept of reducing livestock emissions by using seaweed as feed is the subject of ongoing scientific research, and early results are promising. University of California researchers have found that cows that eat seaweed appear to emit less methane, a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming, when they belch and pass gas.

The dumbasses wailing about cow farts will, with a straight face, tell you about the horrible slaughter of millions of buffalo.

“Harvesting, processing and transporting seaweed all the way to the cows won’t cause more global warming? Please explain.”

I’ll ruminate on it forbawhile.

Yet again, proof that science is becoming “science” as “scientists” spend mass amounts federal tax derived grant monies to fix problems that don’t exist.

Sounds like an unbiased study. Or a way to get your stock price up.

This is so much nonsense. The majority of methane comes from dairy waste ponds or composting. Range cows, if managed properly, actually sequester more carbon than they produce.

The other thing these knuckleheads forget is that if the cattle aren’t grazing, then that grass goes to dormant state and does not go through its full cycle. It impinges on the sprouting of new grasses, it exposes more soil to air, microbial matter declines, and the amount of carbon it may sequester diminishes. As the chemical make up of the soil alters, weeds take root and the whole system is altered.

But of course, none of this matters as this has never been about a healthy ecosystem but a back door way to implement socialism.

Can’t farmers attach a bag to hold gas and manure to a cow and collect the bags at the end of the day and process it for fuel?

An honest inquiry.

From what I remember, in my case, no difference either way.

Sorry I can’t help your friend more.

I shared some with a few co-irkers and they were a big hit.

AP playing the gloBULL warming game, as always.

they’ve only just begun their grab for cash with the energy sector.

watch out for UN IPCC calls for culling or taxing of herds any time now.
after all, agriculture/aviation and more are all part of the carbon dioxide is evil hoax.
