I’m a hardcore lefty. I also live in Texas and have spent most of my career working for nonprofits. That means a lot of red-state right winging. Not the nice, necktie, Laffer-curve, “fiscal conservative, social liberal” guys either. Nice conservatives don’t run charities. They’re comfy where they are. You want to do good in Texas, you need full-on deplorables. You need the churches, the phone trees, the mailing lists. They’re the boots, or at least the sensible shoes, on the ground, knocking on doors and passing out leaflets and stacking donations til 4 in the morning.
Let’s be clear. Philosophically, these people were opposed to my… everything. Hellbound from the haircut down. Tabletop gaming! I had friends at one workplace who loved and collected board games. Me too! Chat went swimmingly until I showed them the dice my beloved sister gave me for Christmas and they told me D&D is a tool of Devil worship. Chilled the conversation somewhat.
But I’m a dope-ass grantwriter, so they put up with me. That by itself is a shot in the gut to “conservatives are bullies.” I spent years in evangelical conservative settings and was never treated poorly, beyond the usual office nonsense. It’s tempting to say “well, you were making them money,” but I wasn’t. They didn’t get to keep the money I made. The money I made went to strangers in desperate straits, people of different faiths, backgrounds, colors than the evangelicals I worked with. Those evangelicals a) put in 80 hour weeks to help them; b) put up with a walking billboard for every value they didn’t have because he could contribute.
Then I lost my job unexpectedly. That comes up in nonprofit work, alas. Budget’s always a shoestring. Still, it sucked. Last day, I was packing up and the woman next to me asked if I was leaving. I said yes. She asked if she could pray for me. I said sure. Do what you like on your own time, right?
Then she took hold of my hands.
Friends, I was not expecting that. I came up Catholic. I am now a Christian pantheist. Laying on of hands? Not a thing in any of that. At all.
And she prayed. No smug. No pity. Not a word of condemnation. Tears in her eyes, because she was worried about me. Praying, because that’s what she could do in that situation. She believed, so she stood with me and tried her best to help.
I’ve never forgotten that. Don’t think I ever will. My beliefs weren’t hers. My faith certainly isn’t hers. There is every reason to suspect I will live out my span and die without ever experiencing another laying on of hands. But this person used the most powerful tool available to her to be profoundly kind to me, at a time when I really, really needed it.
That’s not the act of a bully.
So there’s that.
Anthony Bourdain’s episode with Ted Nugent ended with Bourdain saying something about how liberals are uptight and conservatives are fun. I forget the exact words but he referenced how his liberal friends would never understand. Liberals are intolerant people. They generally suffer from self-loathing.
Grant Writers. Ran into one up here in Amherst, NH. I was able to arrange for the elementary school my son was then attending to get used computers donated by my company along with printers and software. My young son and I installed the wiring for the network. I started setting up the computers when this grant writer stuck his nose into the project and brought in a bunch of high school students to “help”. All they did was eat pizza and screw around. After it was all done, I had to fix each and every computer they “repaired”.
And the grant writer tried to take full credit for the project.
Grant Writers...worthless parasites.
In your face spitting foul diatribes at conservatives will often elicit tactics called agressive defense mechanisms. You want smashmouth political discourse? No problem.
They are the fat slobs getting out of their Prious and loading up on free food and goodies at food pantries.
The author has psychological issues. If I carried a card for a good psychologist I’d off one and wish him a nice day.

To a liberal, a bully is someone that doesn’t agree with them.
Liberals are the littlest snowflakes and the most insane, intolerant, bigoted, stingiest, polluting, angry, unfriendly, greedy, fascist, hate-filled, mean-spirited, envious, resentful, vicious, close-minded, violent, murdering, child-abusing, amoral, stupid, censoring, horse-punching, book-burning, ignorant, uneducated, unskilled, childish, prejudiced, racist, women-hating, man-hating, perverted, thieving, destructive, American-hating, Christian-hating, muslim-loving, Jew-hating, Israel-hating, communist, vote-rigging, vulgar, dirty, smelly, election-rejecting, regressive, restrictive, prohibitive, bed-wetting, poo-flinging, cop-killing, war-mongering, conservative black hating, and scared little lying thumb-sucking idiots God has ever created.

Refusing to acquiesce to blithering idiocy and malignant whining is now defined as “bullying”.
Making a “career” working for “non-profit” organizations is a bit hypocritical in my mind. Often these people make 6 figure salaries. I remember one of the Kennedy making over $300K a year by heading a non-profit to provide heating to low income people.
This guy sounds very noble but many non-profits are a sham run by liberals to bilk taypayers out of money.
Most true hard core conservatives are rough people. People who have served OUR nation with sweat and blood. I no longer consider the Leftist vermin to even be called Americans any longer. The people I associate with are all former military and LE. These guys and gals are the most generous, caring and decent people I have ever been associated with. The Leftist scum who wrote that article hasn’t been out of mammas basement in quite some time obviously. Infuriates me.
"Non-profit" only means there are no shareholders getting profits. People who work for "Non-profits" often do very well indeed.
A friend figured out how to make his business a non-profit. Works absolutely wonderfully for him.
Anyone acquainted with the facts, inconvenient to liberal ideology.
Just as there are no moderate Muslims, there are no moderate Liberals. One cannot reason, rationalize or ever have civility with any of these people.
I'm not necessarily criticizing the process. Just those who, like this guy, sounds so sanctimonious about working for a nonprofit while criticizing conservatives for not working for a nonprofit.
