Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota says “there are a lot of lawyers in America who can sit on the court” and Brett Kavanaugh isn’t the only person who can do the job.
Heitkamp said Friday she hasn’t decided whether to support Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. But her remarks to the AP suggest she may vote no.
Heitkamp is facing a tough re-election this year in a Republican-leaning state. Her decision on Kavanaugh is being closely watched.

The Committee does not need to vote YES to get him out of committee, just to vote to send him to the Senate for confirmation. I bet they can do that with pouty room-leavers and NO votes/ just with a quorum. This is how Clarence Thomas was confirmed.

From my nose counting, it does not look like Republicans will need any RAT votes, although Manchin has said he’s a YES. Flake’s a YES, Corker is a YES, so with Pence there for any tie breaker, I don’t see that we need either Collins or Murkowski, who if they vote NO will be relegated to Lower Slobovia by the Senate leadership.

The thing is that if a boy scout like Kavanaugh with the credentials that he has can’t be confirmed, no one can.
Their problem is not Kavanaugh. It’s that this pick cements a conservative majority for a generation, if none go the way of Kennedy and Souter.
