FULL TITLE: Bill Cosby, 81, is handcuffed and led straight to prison after a judge sentenced him to between three and 10 YEARS for drugging and assaulting a woman over a decade ago - and branded him a 'sexually violent predator'
Bill Cosby emerged from a Pennsylvania courtroom in handcuffs and was led straight to state prison on Tuesday after being sentenced to three to 10 years for drugging and molesting a woman more than a decade ago.
Judge Steven O'Neill handed down Cosby's sentence on Tuesday afternoon as the 81-year-old comedian sat back in his chair with his head on the headrest.
The comic who was once known as America's Dad was denied bail and escorted from the courtroom in handcuffs while carrying his walking stick.
'This was a serious crime. It is time for justice. Mr Cosby, this has all circled back to you. The time has come,' O'Neill said in sentencing him. 'No one is above the law, and no one should be treated differently.'
The punishment came at the end of a two-day hearing at which the judge also declared Cosby a 'sexually violent predator'.
The classification means that Cosby must undergo lifetime counseling and report quarterly to authorities. His name will also appear on a sex-offender registry sent to neighbors, schools and victims.
Cosby, who was also fined $25,000 and ordered to pay prosecution costs, declined the opportunity to address the court during his sentencing.
His wife of 54 years, Camille, was not in court during Cosby's sentencing.

Agreed. And a travesty that they used sealed civil suit testimony in the criminal case to in effect make him testify against himself.
It’s just not right when a woman goes to a married man’s bedroom to drink wine and pop pills to advance her career, and then starts in with this innocent babe in the woods act.
I don’t feel bad for Cosby at all.

I don’t think he’s above the law, but this seems like a waste of time and money now. His reputation is destroyed and they got their message out. I don’t want to pay for his health care and meals now.
I think you have to serve half of the lowest number (3 years) and then if you’ve been good you can get parole. However, a friend’s son who made a boo-boo in California has been told he only has to serve 1/4 of his sentence if he’s a good boy. I think that’s a California thing.
Let him rot in prison. Three plus years is too few. The repeated complaints, covered up for years, finally caught up with him. Should be taken out and executed.
I’m sorry that Cosby did it but I’m not sorry that he’s being punished. He’s getting off really light if you ask me. As the judge said, he’s a violent sexual predator - I wish it wasn’t true but it is.
I don’t really believe any of the claims at this time. Just like now, women waiting 30 years to file claims is NOT justice.
I agree. As bad as the crime was, I am sorry for Bill Cosby. Just the way I am.
I may be in the minority, but I’m very sad about him being put in jail at this time in his life. I think House Arrest would be sufficient, but I know the judge wanted to score points with his liberal pals. This judge is probably already in the process of writing a thinly veiled fictional account based on the experience.
I don’t have to like the guy to say this: The handcuffs in this situation are just wrong.

I don’t get it. In his heyday he could have any woman he wanted. He had to resort to this?
Gov Moonbeam will have back on the street in less than a year. He has the Oakland and LA votes to thinkof.
I personally knew a few people he has had relations with. I heard in the late 80s and didn’t really believe them until recently. Cosby is a creep and a rapist. Frankly he is not getting enough time for this.
