[Snip] Captain Marvel could be another $1 billion+ worldwide grosser. However, thats not remotely a guarantee at this premature juncture. It may not even match the domestic ($413 million) and worldwide ($821m) totals of Wonder Woman. Unless Marvel and Walt Disney went uncharacteristically over budget, it wont have to. Should Captain Marvel find itself on the defensive when it only earns about what Ant-Man and the Wasp ($621m) pulled in?
Wonder Woman benefited from rave reviews and a narrative of Gal Gadots female superhero saving the DCEU after the critically-slammed Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. It offered a solo female director (Patty Jenkins) showing that women could make mega-budget action blockbusters that were at least as good as the male-directed competition. It had the good fortune to open after the relatively underwhelming King Arthur, Alien: Covenant and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and before the relatively underwhelming The Mummy, Cars 3 and Transformers: The Last Knight. It slew all relevant competition right up until Illuminations Despicable Me 3 and Marvel and Sonys Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Captain Marvel will have to contend with potentially heavier competition. No, I dont think The LEGO Movie 2 or X-Men: Dark Phoenix will pull a Black Panther and steamroll the competition well into April. The Brie Larson superhero flick opens right between DreamWorks Animations How to Train Your Dragon 3 and Jordan Peeles Us while having just three weeks before Walt Disneys own Tim Burton-directed Dumbo movie. It has a month before DC Films Shazam, but a month should be enough time to foretell the films fate. Point being, if the February and March flicks are good then Captain Marvel becomes less of an event.

Disney needs to die faster. They have become an evil twisted thing, promoting sickness and insanity.
Disagree. The main demographic for such movies is young boys and young men. They cannot live vicariously through the exploits of some "Mary Sue" Uber-Female-Warrior-Princess.
They have as much affinity for such a person as they do for a male ballerina.
If it does anything more than flop, it will be due solely to the popularity of Marvel's other successful franchises.
They made money on Guardians of the Galaxy, one of the most below the fold only hard core comic nerds have even heard of the title and most of them don’t like it properties in the Marvel Universe. Captain Marvel will be fine. And Brie looks a lot like Carol Danvers, and she’s a good actress, not a bad pick.
“The main demographic for such movies is young boys and young men. “
That is undoubtedly true but, as to whether or not the movie does well, define well. It certainly won’t get Black Panther, Avengers or Iron Man numbers. To me doing well would be to exceed the box office Wonder Woman got. That would be considered a hit.
Destined to fail like The Last Jedi, the new Ghostbusters, Atomic Blonde, Oceans 8, and Battlefield V,
PC Pink, SJW, women's lib, hate white men garbage is always a loosing proposition.
Captain "Marvelous" deserves to fail.
At one point, I thought they were talking about a stand-alone movie with Black Widow. What happened to that?
So will Isis get a reboot?
Mar-Vell: Kree warrior on Earth, introduced 1967.
Carol Danvers, USAF pilot, introduced 1968.
Explosion fuses Mar-Vell’s DNA with Danvers, producing Ms. Marvel, introduced 1977 (?).
There have been several with the moniker, including another female.
Carol Danvers took the title in 2012, in honor of Mar-Vell, at Captain America’s urging.
(I used to collect. I had original Captain Marvel #1, and Ms. Marvel #1. This is from memory.)
Brie Larson is indeed poorly cast.
I strongly disagree, however, with this prediction.
Captain Marvel is the immediate segue into Avengers IV [Untitled], the culmination of an elaborate MCU narrative: 10+ years, 20+ films.
There is no way, short of another great depression, that CM will not be an enormous blockbuster. Fan Boys will show up multiple times just to see the post-credit teaser to Avengers versus Thanos II - which features Captain Marvel herself!
All that does not even take into account the big screen returns of Nick Fury and Phil Coulson. Blockbuster - period. Even without the dubious PC/SJW draw for millenials.
Captain Marvel 2/II/Two, however, after Phase Four commences, presumably without Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, or Hulk: That, I predict, is when tbe MCU might start losing box office clout.
I posted only on Marvel Comics before.
Fawcett had an unrelated, Golden Age, character (now Shazam, whose movie is coming out about the same time).
That Captain Marvel was an obvious semi-ripoff of NPP’s (DC’s) Superman. CM outsold SM. Proto-DC sued Fawcett and won.
The name, Captain Marvel, went into limbo. Marvel Comics resurrected it, and copyrighted it. When DC Comics decided to buy and resurrect their former rival character, they opted for the name Shazam.
My kind of Captain Marvel...machine-gunning bad guys in the back; hauling an elevator car back up the shaft, then pitching the men inside off the roof to their doom...good times!
I came across that thing by accident. I had been watching old Dick Tracy serials from the 1940’s and saw the Captain Marvel serial. It was about 3.5 hours long and I decided to watch it.
I got a real kick out of it, of course the special effects were primitive, reminded me of watching early Dr. Who stuff, but it was all in good fun.
I love watching 1930’s and 40’s movies, the men look like men and the women are real women, nothing fake about those gals and they were pretty good actress’ also for B and C types.
This female agrees with you. Ironically they make these female characters more manly and uber everything than the male heroes they supposedly disdain!
Funny that. If masculine traits are so bad, why do so many (butch) lesbians want to copy them?
I guess they are only bad when men have them. It's all part of the big culture war of turning normal and natural into abnormal and bizarre.
The old series?
Now there are two guys that NO ONE ever thought were secretly gay.
Conrad and Martin always had pretty ladies around.
Jim had a fair amount of revolvers lost or confiscated by the baddies.
There is a long Green Hornet serial and one called The Spider I think on YT.
Not bad for their time.
Thanks I might watch that. Love the radio series on Sirius.
It’s campy and quirky but entertainment.
The OTR shows aren’t bad at all.
