Apple Releases tvOS 12

Apple today released tvOS 12 for Apple TV.

tvOS 12 delivers Dolby Atmos support to Apple TV 4K. With tvOS 12, Apple TV 4K is the only streaming player both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos certified, delivering the highest quality cinematic experience of stunning 4K HDR visuals and immersive sound that flows all around in three-dimensional space.

tvOS 12 also offers a new Zero Sign-on feature that gives you access to your account simply by detecting the broadband network. Zero sign-on begins with Charter later this year and will expand to other providers over time.

Apple, in collaboration with the International Space Station National Lab and the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, delivers brand new aerials shot from space by NASA astronauts, so Apple TV customers running tvOS 12 can enjoy even more stunning scenes filmed in 4K HDR. Aerial screensavers will also be more interactive, allowing viewers to see the location information and swipe between dozens of beautiful aerials.

Home control systems like Control4, Crestron and Savant can be used to control Apple TV, including using Siri for voice search and control.

tvOS 12 also supports AutoFill passwords saved on iOS 12 and brings Apple TV remote to the Control Center on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

tvOS 12 requires Apple TV 4K or Apple TV 4th generation.

To manually update your Apple TV with the latest update, you need to open the Settings app on your TV and then navigate to Settings > Systems > Software Update.

Apple releases Safari 12 for owners of macOS Sierra & High Sierra

“Apple on Monday launched Safari 12 for its two most recent Mac operating systems, Sierra and High Sierra, primarily improving security and privacy,”Roger Fingas reports for AppleInsider.

“The updated browser, for example, blocks social media buttons or embedded content from tracking cross-site browsing without permission, and makes it harder for advertisers to identify individual Macs,” Fingas reports. “It will also suggest strong passwords when creating or updating an account, and can flag reused ones.”

Fingas reports, “Users can now see a website’s icon in each tab, making it less confusing to switch.”

MacDailyNews Note: Safari 12.0 is available via the Mac App Store in the Updates tab.

The adblockers I was using are no longer listed on the on the app store, and the one Apple recommended don't block crap.

Ill be reinstalling from an older backup this weekend.

I think I found the problem. Go to the Safari Menu/Settings for this website. . . and turn on "Enable Content Blockers"

That made a lot of the ads disappear.

Check and make sure your extensions for ad blocking are still turned on in Safari/preferences/extensions. Mine was turned off.

One site I visit I have to click through 4 ads just to get the content. Firefox works better for this, it has removed almost all the ads with the same blockers I was using for Safari.

Thank you very much for your suggestion, Swordmaker. I had already implemented bothl those steps, but still have many more ads than before this update, in which Apple announced they would no longer support UBlock and is harrassing me several times daily over AdBlockerPlus. Probably some third party will come up with something soon.

And I'm not going to Firefox since they publicly dumped their original developer over his personal, private political donations to a conservative cause.

Frustrating ain't it. These tech lefties should just do their jobs and quit trying to control people.

OK I'm down to just 1 ad blocker and it seems to work

https://adblockultimate.net

It will take some adjusting to block what you don't want, and it's the only one I have tried that Safari doesn't like. You will have to block elements on some pages, but at least I was able to block those hideous ads with the Hildabeast.

But it seems to display fast enough.

Sorry been a little busy / offline with holidays.

Anyone upgraded to Mojave? Do you have a thread on it? I am on a 2013 MB Air, wife on 2014 MB Air... worried about slowing it down...

When I go to the App Store I see the Mojave upgrade along with Pages, iMovie, Numbers, and Keynote, but no mention of seperate Safari 12 upgrade.

TIA and thoughts and be safe and well.
