Tennis Star Naomi Osaka Schooled Reporter who Ignored that She's Half-Black

Tennis star Naomi Osaka, 20, kept a reporter in check after throwing her a question that neglected her Haitian roots.

Upon winning the third round of the Australian Open against Ashleigh Barty (6-4, 6-2) on Jan. 20, Osaka spoke to a male reporter who wanted to know what her victory as a “very proud” Japanese means for her people.

Reporter: You moved to New York when you were two years old and lived in the United States for a long time, but you’re very proudly Japanese, obviously. What will this victory mean for the people back home, for both sets of fans who will be watching this for you?”

Osaka: Actually, I live in FL now. But, I mean, of course I’m very honored to be playing for Japan. But my dad’s side is Haitian, so represent. But um, yeah. I forget the rest of your question. Sorry!”

"schooled reporter..."

He committed a liberal PC crime by not properly categorizing her by race.

9 Sept: Spectator: Serena Williams isn’t the victim of sexism – she’s just a sore loser
by Freddy Gray
Serena Williams’s epic tantrum in last night’s US Open final wasn’t a noble stand against racism or sexism. It wasn’t about her being black, or a woman, or a mother — although of course it very quickly became about that, as tweeters and sports hacks climbed over each other to defend the Queen of Women’s tennis because she is a famous mega brand and her brand is about being black, a woman, and a mother.

But in our hearts we all know what really happened. Williams behaved like a bad loser then pretended to be a victim of societal injustice to justify her bratty performance. It was a pathetic and depressing spectacle. The most depressing and pathetic part was that the New York crowd — so keen to see their heroine win — indulged and encouraged her self-pitying, whining, angry display. The fans cheered her on as she berated the umpire Carlos Ramos. His sin? Having the temerity to try to do his job...

Serena Williams can lose without behaving like diva brat, but sometimes she can’t, and when she loses her temper she is a fairly awful human being. She tried to have it both ways too — bigging up her opponent, saying her row shouldn’t distract from Naomi Osaka’s achievement. Her admirers said that showed amazing grace. But it didn’t. Amazing grace would have been not to turn the whole match into a spectacle of her self-importance...

My paternal side immigrated from Hesse in 1700. I’m sure Germany keeps up with my posts.

A friend had a similar experience. He met a black man there who had a thick Scottish accent — hard to understand!

A USMC COL friend of mine was married to a Norwegian.

He said one of the strangest things he saw was a bunch of Vietnamese who had relocated to Norway - especially when they spoke...

Remember a Japanese man was President of Chile a while back.

Must be one hell of a culture shock to come from the Tropics and get relocated in Minnesota or Vermont or Canada...(I refer to all the relocated Africans in those areas)

I don’t believe we should be required to know what mix everyone is but the reporter should have done at least a little research before the match.

Yep. And even without the accent they use so many idioms and so much slang that it is difficult to make sense of it.

From Band of Brothers:

Cockney Rhyming Slang has been evolving in the East End of London since the sixteenth century. It is thought to have originated from the seamen and soldiers who used the London docks, from the Gypsies who arrived in the 1500’s, from the Irish residents and the Jewish faction and from all the other ethnic minorities which have made up the population of the city.

Hoobler: Holy sh***!
Brit: Nah it’s alright mate, we’re tommies not boche.
Hoobler: Is all this real?
Brit: Yeah, yeah. Well some of it’s from the Germans something these toes knocked up. For you lads actually, so you can get your mince pies on some of this Jerry clobber, if you know what I mean?
Hoobler: Not really. Hey mate, you got a Luger? I’m dying to get my hands on a real Luger.
Brit: Yeah go on then, quick butchers yeah?
Hoobler: Boy she sure is a doozy.
Brit: Yeah it’s pukka innit?
Hoobler: What?
Brit: Hey?
Hoobler (walking away): Hey Petty!
Brit: Here, mate! You’re having a bath if you think you’re half-inching that.
Hoobler: Oh yeah, sorry. Well good luck.
Brit: You too mate.

Close your eyes and hear an English accent. Unlike in America, you cannot tell if the person speaking is white or black, unless they just got to England off the boat.

But she plays for Japan not Haiti. What’s wrong with the question?

And yet Zimmerman’s mother was not “Hispanic “
She us partially native Peruvian and one quarter African.

Evidently, when it suits the agenda of those who believe humans have 57 sexes and aren’t adults until age 25 people with African ancestry are automatically white supremacists.

Because patriarchy or something.

Fair enough. But I think you are wrong. We can still do this in America.... That is disagree.

Well, not really anymore.

Ask Alex Jones about that one.

Not that I liked his rants very much, but, the fascist censorship by companies which should really be treated as utilities at this point because they are virtual monopolies, unlike this one, has got me quite upset.

Perhaps not to the casual American ear, but there actually is an audible difference. It's slight, but it's there.

There is also a sort of hybrid British/Caribbean accent that some English blacks purposely accentuate when speaking. It's a cultural thing, which many of them can turn off at will.

In context....you and I can disagree on FR....and in person.

A.J. is in a different venue...

While I don't like it....either.

What we are headed for...is the "thought police".....if we don't stop it.

Jim, I forgot to include your name in the response box, but I’d like your feedback on this one. Don’t you think , say google or apple are in a different category than, say, enormous companies, which no one really has the right to choose from?

I mean, you can have an adroid (g)or apple phone or a microsoft computer. Do you think this breaks anti-trust laws. I do.
I look forward to your response. (FR is not an operating system

Tell me about it. Of all the accents my ear learned to tune to, the Scots accent took the longest. Even after I got it, I found I had to fix my attention on the speaker, or they'd lose me.

I remember strolling in Amsterdam and seeing a big gaggle of black teenagers hanging out around a storefront. Not sure what I was expecting, but as I approached I could hear them all chattering away, as kids do.

Only thing was, they were all speaking Dutch. Sorta twisted my noodle.
