The money comes out of Williams' $1.85 million in winnings as the runner-up to Osaka, whose 6-2, 6-4 victory on Saturday made her the first tennis player from Japan to win a Grand Slam singles title
In the second set's second game, Ramos warned Williams for getting coaching, which is against the rules in Grand Slam matches. She briefly disputed that ruling, saying cheating "is the one thing I've never done, ever" although afterward, her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, acknowledged he was trying to send Williams a signal.
A few games later, Williams received another warning, this time for smashing her racket, and that second violation automatically cost her a point, leading to more arguing.....
Under Article III, Section P of the Grand Slam Rule Book, "verbal abuse" is defined as "a statement about an official, opponent, sponsor, spectator or other person that implies dishonesty or is derogatory, insulting or otherwise abusive." The section says a player is subject to a fine up to $20,000 for each violation.
There are separate categories for coaching ("Communications of any kind, audible or visible, between a player and a coach may be construed as coaching") and for abuse of rackets or equipment.

no way has can she say she has never taken steroids. As for her conduct then good I ma glad she has been fined. It is time for these athletes to understand they should follow rules.
Good gawd she is monstrous.
Fine her $1.85 million.
Trump’s fault.
Round rage
So are we supposed to believe this is the first time she and her coach have resorted to cheating to win a tournament? Having a coach in the stands giving strategy to the player via hand signals is like playing 2 on 1 tennis. Are there videos of this cheating from other matches? How is this different from Lance Armstrong getting away with performance enhancement treatments for all those years.

Thanks a lot. Spellcheck
I bet this fracas helped TV ratings for the US Open. Was it a PR stunt?
Signed: Cynical
Just give her the football and let her score touchdowns
She’s a little too old. Otherwise I’d say heck yeah. Fullback.
I've read that the girl's family move to the US when she was 3 years old...and she grew up on Long Island. True, she is "from Japan" but she spent the last 17 years in the US, and learned to play tennis in the US.
One has to look at such incidents as professional tennis turned into wrestling or roller derby (which is all staged).
Question: Was Hillary Clinton sick or suffering from some ailment when she was conspicuously photographed and coincidentally videoed wobbling and almost falling on many occasions? Or was that a ploy to get sympathy votes?
Just had to go there, didn’t you.
Based on the size of her head I might thinking human growth hormone too. Remember how Barry bonds head grew so ginormous
