The irony is that in the scenario you presented, the runner-up in Tuesday's primary would be guaranteed to serve until 2020 ... while the winner might lose in November 2018.

It might be a perfect scenario, in fact. Imagine if Ward is appointed to fill McCain's seat, drops out of Tuesday's primary, and endorses McSally. It seems like a perfect win-win all around.

At this point in time the Governor will appoint a replacement
to serve until the 2020 election. At that election a person
will be selected to serve the remaining two years of the term.

The timeline for a replacement to be selected via election this
year has passed back in June.

“That won’t happen. He needs to appoint someone Monday or he could lose his primary. He’s been playing games for months, he needs to reveal who he intends to appoint”

You can vote early in AZ by mail (deadline was August 22). If Prescott Valley is any indication most of the voting is in: 25000 ballots already mailed in a town of 45000 people. Good thing is Republicans outvoted the Dems by a 3:1 margin.

very welcome. And, as pointed out above, there is a seniority advantage. Which isn’t much but isn’t ‘nothing’.

” SMELLy, WM-shopping...” What?

Ducey had better tread very carefully, he’s up for re-election in November. Appointing a McCain family member is completely unacceptable. Appointing a despicable RINO like Grant Woods would be even worse. Ducey had better remember that Arizona Deplorables put him in office and he can’t get re-elected without us.

Terrible thing, being in a state of flucks.

I would say Ducey should consider appointing himself.

Would not like to see any of McCain’s family be appointed.

Hoping that McSally wins Tuesday and in November.

Nope, Governor Ducey will say that decency requires that he wait until after the primary election ..... ahh I mean after the funeral. There was a reason they waited until the eve of the election to turn off McCian’s life support. I’m not expecting a good replacement to be named.

Why is that unacceptable? The morons of AZ thought he was pope, and kept him in for life.

Well there is still the general. If he make this into a dynasty seat I may just forget to vote for governor.

I don’t think he wants to face the kind of blow back he would get

I am from Arizona and I am not a moron. McCain was a terrible senator, and if he hadn’t died he would have lost if he ran for the Senate again.

Once these POS’s get into office it’s hard to get rid of them. We Arizona Deplorables are glad that McCain is finally dead and we’re overjoyed that we drove Saint Jeffy out of the senate.

Senator McCain’s term is up in 2022. He was just re-elected.

On Fox, they were talking to Grant Woods, one of his former aides, who held office in Arizona. He said that the person who is appointed will serve until 2020, at which time there will be a special election for the final two years of the term.

Woods was also saying that it looks like the Democrat (Kirsten Synema) has a decent chance to win. If that’s true, it might be a good idea to wait until Wednesday and appoint the second-place finisher in the primary. That might be the best way to get the McSally camp and the Ward camp together so that Synema can be beaten.

If he appoints Cindy then the senate will have picked up another full fledged Democrat.

Definitely.

Now they’re talking about where McCain might be buried.

He is being buried at Annapolis, Fox just announced this. His father and grandfather were both buried at Arlington.
