You seem to take too much stock in leftist rhetoric. Washington fought to not only gain independence for the United States but also to free slaves. And with all due respect, I find your skewed comparison of Washington to Franco insulting.
“Seriously, do you have any idea what you are talking about” is a personal attack. And that’s the best defense of my position I can have, frankly. No holes were poked in anything by posting unfactual opinion. Franco could have joined the allies at any time; this would have bolstered France’s defenses and given a stronger hand to the United Kingdom. He was in no immediate danger from communist hordes.
I was talking to a Spanish girl about thirty years ago. She was a very bright girl — “all A’s”, and very nice. She was over here learning conversational English. Anyhow, the subject of WWII was going around the table, and she seemed a little arrogant about how the rest of Europe was stupid for fighting a big nasty war like that. I asked her about the Spanish civil war, and she had nothing. She didn’t know it happened. I explained how the Blitzkrieg tactics were partially developed by the Germans who fought in that war. She was completely dumbstruck.
Propaganda can be very effective.
Now, I look around at the young American kids, and I see similar ignorance, ignorance created by the socialist fifth column.
“Nineeteen Eighty-Four” is so chilling because it was in fact a handbook already being used by the left. The notion of those who control the past consequently gaining the ability to control the future has always been their belief; it’s “history written by the victors” taken to its extreme, even though all they can ultimately do is drive truth underground.
You do understand that the Left are planning to dig up Washington (literally) along with most of the other Founders? By the way, I have had the honor to lay a wreath on the grave of the 1st President.
Well, I hope I misunderstood you. I would feel quite bad if I did and I apologize if I in fact did.
Don’t forget the warning to us from Churchill (IIRC) and Santayana that forgetting the past results in repeating it, as the left makes its sure its denizens and acolytes forget (and/or never learn) history.
“I see youre still with the personal attacks. So your opinion Ill politely take with a grain of salt. Have a nice day.”
What personal attack? And nothing I said in regard to Franco in that post was merely an opinion.
“Thats the biggest canard of all.”
And you’ll fail to show that’s what it is. And we both know that as well.
“What communists were on Spains border threatening a revolution?”
If it was a revolution it would be a group outside of Spain. You do know what a revolution is, right? It’s from WITHIN.
“Never mind the false dilemma of having to choose between international socialism and national socialism.”
Franco was never a socialist. He used Falangism to his benefit without ever turning Spain into a National Socialist country. But why let facts mar your fantasies, right?
“Have a nice day.”
Oh, I will. I hope you do too.
“It was the Allies who saved Spain, not Franco.”
Nope. The Allies never sent an army to save Spain from communists, anarchists, atheists and other scum in the Spanish Civil War. It’s as if you live in a fact free world of fantasy.
And Winnie’s dead as a doornail too!!!!
I’m glad Franco’s dead and I’m glad Spain’s moved on from being a dictatorship. Don’t give a rat’s a$$ whether they dig him up or not or what they do with whatever’s left of him. It’s a pointless debate.

“Its a pointless debate.”
It’s not a pointless debate to Spaniards or to people who have taken sides in the battle between Left and Right.
Will you say it’s a pointless debate when they want to take down the Jefferson Memorial or the Washington Monument of exhume the remains of some of the Founding Fathers?
It is a pointless debate to most Spaniards. Most of them either don’t care or mildly agree with it.
