IRON TOWN, Utah -- An elderly couple in southern Utah shot an intruder, but the fight didnt stop there.
Investigators say the man then stripped naked and confronted deputies.
Iron Town is a very small community just west of Cedar City.
Barbed wire fences and no trespassing signs greet the few visitors that venture that way.
Really, really quiet," resident Walter Enz said. "Nice.
But it wasn't quiet on Tuesday.
I saw the sheriff deputy come up on a pickup and he was coming at me like he was shot out of a cannon," Enz said.
The Iron County Sheriff's Office had received a call for a burglary in process in Iron Town.
Deputies say 24-year-old Christian Holbert kicked down the door of the house and confronted the couple inside.
They are a little bit elderly, they do have some disabilities," Lt. Del Schlosser said.
Elderly but not defenseless.
A sign at the home reads, "Smith and Wesson spoken here."
They did fear for their lives and they did shoot at him," Lt. Schlosser said.
After being shot several times, investigators say Holbert stripped naked, walked out of the home and confronted four deputies.
Taser was used multiple times" Lt. Schlosser said. "He did not respond to that but the deputies were able to subdue him.
After a medical helicopter took Holbert to Dixie Regional Medical Center in serious condition, Iron Town returned to quiet.
Things happen and you just have to hope they dont happen to you," Enz said.
The homeowners were not hurt, and deputies say they were within their rights to defend their lives.
Investigators think Holbert was on some kind of drugs that allowed him to keep going despite being shot and tased.
Saw a sign in Tampa that read:
NO TRESPASSING !
Violators will be autopsied.
Does not suggest firearms.
His meth usage must be in its early stage. I'm guessing in a year (if he's still alive) he will look much worse.
I’ve got the beware of dog signs also. At 20lbs she’s not much of a threat but before they see her it does make them nervous.
If they make a comment about the sign and the small dog I tell them the one in the basement is the one that’s dangerous.
No head wounds in the mugshot?
Smith and Wesson spoken here should be convincing, but perhaps it was in cursive.
Nice. I’ve been trying to find the porch notice I’d seen online about the dog being hungry and already having taken down one visitor, and I’m out to get more food for the dog so it doesn’t happen again, or something like that.
"This could very well be the stupidest person on the face of the Earth."
Good one. Another one I saw was about the next door neighbor who’s a gun free liberal and the sign read “Liberal - Doesn’t Have Any Guns” with an arrow on the sign.
Ya think!! Definitely doped up big time. He probably won't remember he did any of those things. Glad the old folks were able to protect themselves using the God given natural right to self-protection.
The mugshot is from a 2017 arrest.
“Here’s your sign” literally.
Dang drugs.
It always pays to read.
Now that’s funny:-)
Not that good, he’s still alive.
Yes. It is good advice not to put these signs up. Also gives people a heads up you own weapons and thus are also a potential robbery site if and when nobody’s home.
People really have trouble trying to be a grey man.
