Cardinal Raymond Burke has called for "open recognition" of the Catholic churchs homosexual culture in light of recent revelations of sexual abuse.
"I believe that there needs to be an open recognition that we have a very grave problem of a homosexual culture in the Church," Burke said in an interview Thursday, "especially among the clergy and the hierarchy, that needs to be addressed honestly and efficaciously."
The former head of the church's equivalent of the Supreme Court said it was already "clear after the studies following the 2002 sexual abuse crisis that most of the acts of abuse were in fact homosexual acts committed with adolescent young men."
"There was a studied attempt to either overlook or to deny this," he said, referring to the mainstream media cover-up of the homosexual nature of the abuse as well as such denial within the church itself.
"Now it seems clear in light of these recent terrible scandals that indeed there is a homosexual culture, not only among the clergy but even within the hierarchy, which needs to be purified at the root," Burke said.
The cardinal's analysis of the situation coincides with another report, also released on Thursday, by the president of the Catholic League, Bill Donohue.
In his report, Mr. Donohue, who is a trained sociologist, decried the ongoing "media cover-up of the role played by gay molesters" in the church...

We kids 60 years ago knew not to let a priest corner you. How is it now just becoming big news. We made sport of evading the perverts ( young and old).
“The Eastern Orthodox Church (Eastern Catholic), does not have a Pedophile problem. You know why? Priests are all married!”
1) Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic are two DIFFERENT sets of Churches.
2) They have a pedophile and ephebophilia problem too as my post with links elsewhere in the thread shows.
3) Not all of their priests are married.
You really can’t get much of anything right.
It is worth noting also, given the knee jerk impulse to global condemnation sure to arise, that all but two of the cases studied in the Pennsylvania diocese happened past the statute of limitations for prosecution. That means the harm mostly was done a long time ago and has not continued into the present.
Thank-you for standing up for part of my heritage, on my late father’s side which is Polish. King Jan Sobinski was and is a hero in that he and the Polish army defeated the Ottoman Turks at the Gates of Vienna on September 11, 1683.
In regards to the Eastern Rite Catholics/Orthodox priests, they are allowed to get married BUT it has to be done before entering the seminary, before becoming a priest. Once ordained, they cannot marry. Any bishops appointed have to come from the monastic communities.
Yeah, every body is doing it... white wash it brother. The Roman Catholic Church advertises itself as being the oldest and one and only 'church'. You are denigrating the 'church' by comparing its sins to those 'protestant' Baptists.
First of all, thank-you for your service. Second there was a priest who died while serving in Vietnam and he became known as the “Grunt Padre” whose cause is being investigated.
Also thank-you for standing up for the faith.
I have read on FR this year sometime that Pope Francis is planning to have a meeting with those bishops from the Amazon (not the famous Jeff Bezos online business), but big river in Brazil next to look at ordaining “mature” married men to the priesthood. Kid you not.
Correction: next year, 2018.
Um............need to disagree with you. Sexual sins sadly has been found not only in the Catholic Church but also in the non-Catholic churches as well. The SBC and also a well known mega church has faced legal judgment.
Double correction: 2019.
AMEN and SECOND IT.
The RCC has survived worse and will not only survived but will see a spiritual spring time.
It NEEDS a major house cleaning.
The scripture you cited refered to Jerusalem not Rome or the RCC.
Yep.

This is true. The men who would be ordained would be viri probati, “proven men” in Latin. Their children would be grown and they would be men who have a reputation for Christian maturity.
I would be much more receptive to the viri probati than to a general acceptance of married men with young children. However, it should include the obligation of sexual continence.
Most likely being looked at because of the growth of the Evangelical churches down that way.
