Over 2000 years later: Ancient gold earring discovered in City of David
Jerusalem Post ^ | August 8, 2018 | Tamara Zieve

Posted on 08/13/2018 8:48:44 PM PDT by SunkenCiv

A Hellenistic-era golden earring that features the image of a horned animal was discovered in the Givati parking lot of the City of David National Park that encircles the Old City walls, the City of David announced Wednesday.

The discovery was made during archaeological digs carried out by the Antiquities Authority and Tel Aviv University...

The hoop earring bears the head of a horned animal with large eyes and a mouth...

Close to the place where the earring was found, excavators also found a gold bead with intricate embroidered ornamentation resembling a thin rope pattern, dividing the beads into two parts with six spirals on each side.

Ariel Polokoff and Dr. Adi Erlich, from the University of Haifa's Department of Archaeology, examined the earring and bead and said the jewelry was crafted using a technique called filigree, in which threads and tiny metal beads are used to create delicate and complex patterns.

According to them, this type of earring first appeared in Greece during the early Hellenistic period. Similar earrings have been found across the Mediterranean basin, especially in Greece, but are extremely rare in Israel.

According to Prof. Gadot, only a few earrings of this kind have thus far been found in Israel, many of them in the coastal region, with one slightly different specimen discovered inside a tomb in the Hinnom Valley. This is the first time, however, that an earring of this type has been found in Jerusalem in archaeological ruins from that era...

The jewelry will be on public display at the City of David's 17th Annual Archaeological Conference scheduled for September 8.

Yo Ezekiel, the midrashic sources (and Talmud) identify the uni-horned animal as the extinct “tachash” whose skin was used in the construction of the tabernacle.

There must be some gematrias there.

Re “the head of a large horned animal, with large eyes and a mouth”.

Holy Moses. Someone made a piece of jewelry back that far of Helen Thomas. I knew that she was Lebanese, but this is ridiculous.

When a woman takes off one earing she’s going to use the
phone.
When she takes off both earings then you’re in trouble.

The fabrication of a piece like this is just stunning
considering it was made using a charcoal block and a
mouth blow pipe and put together using gold of different
melting points.

Master craftsmanship. I knew a goldsmith once who
could do granulation and fine work like that.

13:14: "Problem-solving at the literal level."

Well there you go!!! I've been vindicated. :)

I never know where these things end up, I just follow along. It's always something good and will come around full circle in strange ways. So here goes (you knew this would happen):

07:40 re the tachash:

"It's the hide of an animal - a creature - that no longer exists... It only existed at that time, in the desert."

The word in Exo 25:5 is

תחשים

Which is literally by the letters, Hushim, the 'deaf' son of Dan [who lopped off Esav's head], with a tav prefix. And Hushim permutes to Mashiach.

Hushim (חושים) are the senses. Chush:

a faculty by which the body perceives an external stimulus; one of the faculties of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch.

Techusha (תחושה): n.f. feel, feelings, sense, sensation, hunch, perception

1:03:30: "I hope we get a sense..."

From Klein's etymology:

"Nouns with prefix ת generally serve: 1 as verbal nouns of the Qal, usually strengthening the basic meaning of the verb..."

Gematria:

By separating the tav as its own letter/note/sign/signal (תו), I noticed that the gematria of "ohr rishon" and "water energy" - 764 - reappears:

techashim = 758, tav + Hushim = 764.

Tav (which is a musical note) Mashiach = ohr rishon (אור ראשון). Same as "tav Hushim", the mark of Hushim (1. he was 'deaf' and 2. he wanted to problem-solve at the literal level). The KISS principle in action.

Rashi: tachash skins: This was a species of animal that existed only for a [short] time, and it had many hues (גַּוָּנִים). Therefore, [Onkelos] renders [it] סַסְגּוֹנָא, because it rejoices (שֶׁשָׂשׂ) [ס and שׂ are often interchangeable] and boasts of its hues (גַּוָּנִים). -[from Shab. 28a, b]

Rejoicing in its colors. Sason, simcha. Thus there's an allusion to another permutation of Mashiash, yismach, "he will rejoice."

"It's another kind of creature." Not just some kind of skin.

The shiur at the hyper-literal level shows up here, because the tachash is a mystery:

עורת

Starting at the reference text on that link (Lev 22:22), the word traces back to the skin (as a covering).

The concept appears in when Isaac called Esav for the blessing:

Gen 27.1 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said to him, My son; and he said to him, Behold, here am I:

(Esav saying "Hineni". That's a big deal.). Esau goes out in the field on his hunt, and during that time, that whole situation with the Purim costume ensues. Who is who, Jacob saying that he's Esav, what's the difference in the big picture. Isaac was feeling Jacob's hands perceiving Esav, but the voice was Jacob's. All the senses are involved in that account.

Israel's eyesight was an issue when Joseph brought in his sons:

Gen 48

10. Now the eyes of Israel were dim from age, so that he could not see; And he brought them near to him; and he kissed them, and embraced them:
11. And Israel said to Joseph, I had not thought to see your face; and, lo, God has shown me also your seed:

Re the tashach[im] and sight: "The colors define it completely... Its hide, its colored skin defines it". [41:45]

The sod really is the pshat. Full circle. It's been my experience that studying the details reveals simple messages that a small child could understand. There's the beauty in all of it, everything contracting down to "one". Rejoicing (and laughing) at the simplicity of it all. It's not a matter of "all that work for nothing". Paradoxically it's the opposite, because it generates laughter, which is the best medicine, the Refuah Shlema. But hey what do I know. Puns: the turning of words and ideas, revealing many (70) faces. Panim, paneh... pun. Same meaning, same consonants. Puns, the lowest form of humor. Like the letter C (see) being the note "DO". See and do. The dew of heaven above, she'mayim. That which is water [settling on the sod]. D'oh. ;)

Going back to the point of the tachash[im] being a living creature verses the "mistake at the simple level" of it being the name of a dye made up of six colors. From the Hebrew wiki page on the rainbow (Gr. "iris", which is in English the pupil, the apple - "little man" - of the eye):

"The bow is composed of the colors of the spectrum, arranged according to their wavelength. It is customary to distribute the continuous spectrum of the rainbow to the discrete colors called "rainbow colors." The Division is culture-dependent and is not uniform throughout the world. The red color is on the outer side of the rainbow, followed by orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple is in its inner side."

The total in the Hebrew version is six. Or as the verse would indicate, the red [rams' skins], then follows the tachash (six). Either way, Roy G. Biv is the little man with the "roy"al name who is the iris (rainbow). Somewhere in my notes from a while back I totaled the gematria of all the colors because I never know when this stuff will come in handy. Today looks like a good day to check up on it.

It only existed at that time, in the desert.

Deu 32.
9. For the Lord's portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance:
10. He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye:

The name is Roy, meaning royal. The sound of the name is like the Hebrew verb to see. Ro-eh (רואה), "seer", a see-er. Light (f.): ohra (אורה). A navi was called a see-er, so why the switch to navi? "Come (go) let us go to the seer." Navi (נָבִיא) = "we will bring/present/cause/bring about". That's not in the etymologies that I can find; it's in 501 Hebrew Verbs, pg. 46. Making reality happen.

Don't miss this data on the name of Roy: the color red [in Irish]

"Rainbows can be full circles. However, the observer normally sees only an arc formed by illuminated droplets above the ground,[1] and centered on a line from the sun to the observer's eye.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow

"It was one hide that covered the top". Not pieced together.

That's where the discussion had diverted (36:30) to the unicorn based on someone in the audience mentioning the word sus. The unicorn, like the dye of six colors, was pretty much dismissed. However, the unicorn is usually depicted with or colored as a rainbow. Just do an image search for unicorn. It's all children's imagery or magical weirdness. Absurdities.

"The unicorn connection is stronger than we think."

The 50th state is known for the common appearance of double/twinned rainbows. The colors are reversed. Well there's one way to make a full circle, as two halves make a whole.

"White light separates into different colours on entering the raindrop due to dispersion, causing red light to be refracted less than blue light."

Collectively (all the colors 'rounded up') is white (Lavan). White light, the moon, Israel, David, Rachel... the Shekinah. A covering of light is all colors. Come to think of it, Joseph's coat was a coat of passim, stripes. Wavelengths as it were. They go on forever. The brothers dipped Joseph's coat in blood. "The red color is on the outer side of the rainbow"... minutia, it's all in there.

Here's a fun page:

http://parshanut.com/post/75052472668/unicorns-and-mermaids-parshat-terumah

The name Laban means "white". According to the Kabbalah, Laban represents loben ha-elyon, the "supernal whiteness" that transcends all "color" and classification. Thus "Laban" embodies the power of transformation — because it is beyond classification, it bridges opposites and can transform a thing into its very extreme. This is how Balaam's divine gift of prophecy (our sages go so far as to equate his prophetic power with that of Moses!) could reside within such an evil person, and how, on the other hand, his virulent curses could be transformed in his very mouth into blessings, and this arch enemy of Israel even ends up issuing the most important of the Torah's prophecies (Numbers 24:15-25) — the promise of the future redemption by Moshiach.

https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/3179/jewish/Laban.htm

In one common form of synesthesia, known as grapheme-color synesthesia or color-graphemic synesthesia, letters or numbers are perceived as inherently colored.[7][8]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia

Well you *did* ping me for the gematria. :)

Rainbows can be full circles.

"Roy" = 216. Harav Ginsburgh has a number of pages referencing 216. Example:

gematria = 216 = gevurah (“might”). Gevurah is the Divine power responsible for tzimtzum (contraction and diminution of Divine light and energy)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RGB_color_model

"Everything has a purpose. Everything is one with Him."

techushot, techashim... "I hope we get a sense..."

The lack of vision is a covering over the eyes. Literally it's a cornea that covers the eye. A "horn". Samuel was instructed to fill his horn with oil. Tears are oil (a lubricant), which are the tears of the USS Eretz Tziona in its isolated grave, represented by Rachel who is the Shekhinah in exile:

I see a rainbow. And an eye. Looks like M57.

Feelings: Compassion. Love. Chesed. I'd say that this tachash is very much alive. Moses made the Tabernacle with it.

From the parshanut page:

But the coolest tachash source is the Talmud, in Sanhedrin 28b:

The tachash of Moses’ day was a separate species, and the Sages could not decide whether it belonged to the genus of wild beasts or to the genus of domestic animals.  And it had one horn in its forehead, and it only existed for Moses for that moment, and he made the Tabernacle with it, and then it was hidden.

Moses saw stuff, without the cornea burn. :)

Located at Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941, Dolphin took the attacking enemy planes under fire, and then left for a patrol in search of Japanese submarines in the Hawaiian Islands.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Dolphin_(SS-169)

ahav x echad: 169

More from Parshanut:

“These are the gifts that you shall accept from them: gold, silver, and copper; blue, purple and crimson yarns, fine linen, goats’ hairs; tanned rams skins, dolphin skins, and acacia wood, oil for lighting, spices for…”

WAIT, STOP, WHAT??? Dolphins?!? Did the Torah really just tell me that the Children of Israel, in the middle of the Sinai desert, are carrying around dolphins??

OK, this is just the translation from my little black JPS Tanakh. So let’s take a look at the word in Hebrew: תחשים, techashim. Weird word, we haven’t seen it before. So that’s really the question: what does it mean? What is a tachash?

"Nouns with prefix ת generally serve: 1 as verbal nouns of the Qal, usually strengthening the basic meaning of the verb..."

Hastening the coming of Mashiach.

"Be excited!"

Outstanding video, very inspiring. Thanks much!

Gen 24

21. And the man wondering at her held his peace, to see whether the Lord had made his journey succesful or not:
22. And it came to pass, as the camels finished drinking, that the man took a golden ear ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold:
23. And said, Whose daughter are you? Tell me, I beg you; Is there room in your father's house for us to lodge in:
