Not a Win10 fan. I switched to Linux because of it.
Windows XP was the greatest OS in computing history.
Even if they had to get rid of it, they still could have kept it as a lower-tier OS for people who don't want the bells and whistle.
BTW, Windows 10 is "popular" only because Gates is force-feeding it to you and you have no choice but to upgrade.
Death before Windows 10!
Long gone to Linux Mint.
I have a WinX in a VB, but it’s useless for me.
Win7 on a laptop with a WinXP VB gets almost all of my Win(O/S) stuff done.
I’m NOT a techy by any means, but seems to me as I was recently forced to switch to Firefox due MS not supporting IE anymore on my Windows 7 that perhaps might have something to do with Win. 10 gaining over 7.
I mean maybe, just maybe instead of doing as I did lots of folks just quit 7, and start fresh with 10. I like 7, so I opted for the either google, or firefox route in which I chose firefox, but that’s just me.
Everything you do on Windows 10, all activity is monitored and sent back to the mother ship. Sure you can try to prevent some things from going back but not all. The monitoring is built into the OS Kernel and there is NO way to prevent the automatic updates to the operating system.
The only way to stop the spying is to install the expensive corporate enterprise version.
Germany has mandated that no Windows 10 machines can be used in government business. They are well aware about the executive order that Obama made to Microsoft.
I got Windows 10 over a year ago. For the first 6 months there were upgrades and patches several times a week. At work I was without a working computer for 3 or 4 hours a week.
From Christmas to Memorial day, the interruptions went down to less than 1 hour per week. Now in June, July, August they are again back up to 4 hours or more per week. I walk in in the morning, unlock my laptop and for the next hour I have to work off paper.
When is Windows 10 going to end this Alpha testing phase?
I love Windows 7. I liked XP, but 7 rocked over it. No ten for me ever if I can help it.
I run both: Win7 on the desktop and Win10 on the laptop.
If you want to move to 10 don’t pay full price.
I’ve used a bunch of them.
And I’m toying with downloading a 7 IOS and building a new machine from it. There is no way to convert from XP to 7 so I thought Id build the 7 and carefully move applications over one at a time.
Palemoon and Mozilla on XP are falling behind.
From XP to 7?
bttt
The title is kinda funny. It kind of reads, “An 8 year old OS is just now beginning to slowly pull ahead of a 11 year old OS in sales.”
So microsquish found more ways to screw people over and forde windows 10 onto peoples machines who didnt want it.
if it had been a decent operating system instead of being a crapload of spyware- and allowed people to retain control over the system like 7 had, then windows 10 would have far surpassed 7 long before now
A new operating system has more users than an old operating system. MS-DOS users are now more numerous than CP/M users. In other news, more Apple users own Macintosh than Apple 2 computers. ( click the ad )
I had Win XP for years on my desk top and it was great. Never had a need for all of the bells and whistles; just basic internet access to communicate.
My hard drive crashed beyond recovery a couple of years ago. My computer service owner had refurbed PCs with Win 7 and Win 10. He advised me to stick with the Win 7, based on my past user usage and the big difference with Win 10, which was more difficult to use.
I bought the Win 7 unit and have been happy with performance. I don’t need all of that gaming crap.
We now have Win10 Pro on all of our machines, having migrated from XP and Win7. Main apps are graphics, DB, test web server, office stuff (but not MS Office), etc. with no major problems so far.
“NetMarketShare, however, shows that Windows 10 is still closing the market share gap with 7.”
Well, duh. Windows 7 is almost impossible to get any more, and is not supported well. You can still get it through Dell and HP but pay an enormous price for it.. Windows 10 is everywhere.
