SUFFOLK, Va. A man allegedly shot a pit bull while trying to help a woman who was attacked by the dog Wednesday around 12 p.m.
The woman was in the 100 block of Chestnut Street when the dog reportedly latched onto her hand and would not let go. This is when the man, in an attempt to help the woman, shot the pit bull killing it, according to Suffolk Police.
The woman was able to drive to the hospital for treatment. She has already been released from medical care.
Police tell News 3 the incident remains under investigation.

[A reminder to other readers here that this is not about trying to destroy or hurt animals for no reason. The purpose is for those interested to become more educated and prepared for real self-defense if needed.]
For some reason, there is an image of the vascular system of a shark in that last set of diagrams.
Good shot!
I see that per the story the Police are still investigating so there is the possibility that it was the woman that was the aggressor. Maybe she was in the process of forcing her hand down the dogs throat in an effort to choke the poor innocent pit bull who was minding its own business out for a walk. So there’s a real possibility that the poor ‘Pitty’ is the victim here. (Queue pictures of cute little Pit Bull puppies here flocking among the sunflowers and dew drops)
Did this happen in America?
OK, I finally saw the ‘VA’.
It’s literally getting too dangerous to take some exercise outdoors anymore, unless you run circles in your own fenced back yard. That really sucks. I resent the negligent people who own these dogs and fail to keep them on tight leash or secured behind sturdy high fences at all times.
Seriously?
Get a couple of cans of pepper spray that will spray for a good distance. The fogger type dispensers might be better for most people, although the kind that spray a skinny stream might be better for areas that are more often breezy. I prefer the kind made for defense against humans, but many like the bear sprays. Either kind will do it.
But it needs to be used before an attacking dog bites a victim, if possible. That’s when it would be most effective. Requires some steady nerve, too. The defender must be calm and focused on spraying the attacker accurately.
Concealed carry is also good for those who live where that is feasible. Don’t forget concealed carry insurance in case of a second attack by a criminal owner of an attacking dog.
I carry concealed for the same reason. It was actually a pit bull attacking my lab puppy at a dog park - for no reason - that finally pushed me to go ahead and get my ccw.
That will not happen again. I will not allow it. If it is attempted, the offending pit bull will learn what its like to get shot 10 times as I empty the magazine into it.
WRONG!
You have a right to your opinion even if it’s a really atrocious one. Which it is.
“Police tell News 3 the incident remains under investigation.”
What’s to investigate? Cops will wind it up by the end of the year.
Why do they say "trying to help". She had a pit bull attached to her hand. He didn't try to do anything... he did do something and it helped her.
Yeah..right; the pit bull was trying to push her out of the way oF an oncoming car. NOT. BLESS YOU CHET99..WHEREVER YOUARE; YOU WERE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!
Of course NOT seriously.
It was a joke....
Amen
Ok...should have realized....sorry
Right now, here in my state, there's at least one guy doing time, a long time, because he fired three times when twice was enough.
