A search is ongoing in the Sulu Sea for a 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Marine assigned to USS Essex (LHD-2) who has been missing for almost two days. Since 9:40 a.m. local time Thursday Wednesday evening in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aircraft have run around-the-clock searches of the Sulu Sea and Surigao Strait for the Marine who is presumed overboard from Essex, the 13th MEU said in a statement. The search efforts are being assisted by the Philippine Coast Guard vessel.
As we continue our search operation, we ask that you keep our Marine and the Marines family in your thoughts and prayers, Col. Chandler Nelms, commanding officer of the 13th MEU, said in a statement. We remain committed to searching for and finding our Marine.
The Marines family has been notified of the search, but the Marines identity is not being released while the search is ongoing, according to a Navy statement. So far, the search has covered more than 3,000 square nautical miles.

I started out as a lowly enlisted guy but I was one of the lucky ones to have a duty that had a lot of respect, training, and huge responsibilities.
I heard Global Hawk flies out of Grand Forks, but I thought all the pilots actually flew them from Creech.
I really don't know much about the UAV stuff. The only thing I know is Grand Forks AFB is now a very small base but the facilities are top notch. Back during the Cold War there were many thousands of personnel keeping the bombers and ICBMs on Alert and the base was basically swarming with activity 24/7/365. There were always B-52s or B-1Bs and the KC-135 tankers flying and the missile maintainers were constantly dispatching to keep the birds on Strategic Alert. Chasing "green time."
I earned my Masters at UND. The AF paid for it as the only perk the missile launch officers received. I lived on base for awhile then, when I stayed there after my Ops time to become a Missile Maintenance Officer, we bought a new home way down at the south end of town off of Belmont Rd.
As far as I know, Predator has been retired, so all that is left, is Reaper and Global Hawk. As far as I know, all the RPAs are flown by pilots at Indian Springs. The Thunder Birds practice there too.
I knew people who lived on Belmont Road. I know where the Lincoln Park Golf Course is. How far south were you? Were you affected by the 500 year flood in 1997?
I was at P.I. last weekend.
Looks like they are letting little babies into The Corps.
Keep us posted how she is doing.
Hey, don’t tell everyone!
