First time for a proposed pit bull ban to go before voters prior to taking effect
SPRINGFIELD, MissouriOpens Question 1 on the August 7, 2018 primary election ballot for the City of Springfield, Missouri:
Shall the City of Springfield establish a future ban upon the possession of new pit bull dogs within the City limits by prohibiting acceptance of any new pit bull registrations and only allowing renewals of existing current pit bull dog registrations?
The language of the proposed Springfield pit bull ban was approved by the city council, voting 5-4, in November 2017. Backlash
The backlash was immediate, recalls Springfield News-Leader reporter Alissa Zhu. Residents threatened to boycott businesses associated with the five council members who voted for the ordinance. Within a month, more than 7,800 people signed a petition, circulated by a local group called Citizens Against BSL, in an effort to stop the ban.
Enough petition signatures were certified to put the proposed ordinance before the Springfield voters. The outcome appears likely to be decided by how effectively pit bull ban opponents and proponents mobilize during the next few days to get out the vote.

Boomer, you spew emotional words just like a lefty. Very little thought, just ‘feelings’. I could give a dang about the life of a dog in regards to the safety of a person. And I have 2 dogs, 5 cats and 5 snakes. So spare me your vile hateful emotional non thinking, people hating rhetoric. If a particular animal is dangerous to life or limb, it may be addressed with lethal force. Period.
Talking to the mirror again I see.
Pit advocates don’t realize that by their very recommendations of how to properly control the dogs, proper training, proper containment, proper socialization, etc, etc etc, they are in fact recognizing the dogs inherent nature to kill and maim.
If the dog were not that unpredictable and volatile there would be no need for all those kinds of recommendations.
Pits are a danger to people because if they don’t have the proper control, they are killing machines and there are no guarantees at all that the proper control is going to be there.
Sure, in their fantasy pit bull paradise, every pit is *properly* everything, and their alleged sweet loving nature just rises to the top like cream.
But this is reality and reality has a way of smacking people upside the head and sadly, those that pay the most are not the ones who own the dogs and advocate for them. It’s usually someone else who is in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I need to apologize for my comment.
It was inappropriate and not my place to make that judgment or call.
No worries. I didn’t take it personally. I recognize this is a passionate issue for anyone with skin in the game.
I still wish these Pittie Party threads would dial back to no more than one a week. None would be best from my perspective but free speech is free speech. These multiple times a week though is pure overkill.
