I have seen a herd of similar umbrellas ripping down a beach in high wind. It was laughable and frightening at the same time.

I recall years ago, a Midshipman at the Naval Academy was impaled by a javelin. This was at a track and it hit him in the heart.
He survived.

Waters said paramedics cut off part of the shaft to facilitate transportation to a hospital. The woman was said to be conscious after the incident. Lady to paramedics, "Whatever you do. Don't. Push. The button!"

The artist Christo had an Umbrella Installation in the Tejon Pass north of Los Angeles, in the 90s. During a particularly bad thunderstorm one of the umbrellas, anchored in cement, broke off and hit a woman causing her death from head trauma. We drove up to see the Art Installation before that happened........it really was pretty. But not worth the death of anyone.
