I recall years ago, a Midshipman at the Naval Academy was impaled by a javelin. This was at a track and it hit him in the heart.

He survived.

if you leave it in they have a better chance at surviving. they dont immediately bleed out.

Had a similar event at the Air Force Academy, summer of '69. He also survived.
