American Airlines and its dress code requirements for non-revenue passengers have caused a lot of controversy in past years. Remember last years #LeggingsGate when United created a stir on social media after denying boarding two non-rev female passengers from boarding because they were wearing leggings?
Non-revenue passengers fly on stand-by because a friend or family member works for a particular airline company, but American had a strict dress code policy used to prevent these passengers from boarding their planes if a passenger is not properly clothed. Last year, the airline decided to relax its dress code policy and allows passengers to wear whatever they want as long as the clothing is neat and clean and does not offend or distract.
So when a non-rev passenger tried boarding an American flight from Miami to New York in tattered, ripped denim shorts, the airline told her her outfit was inappropriate. The passenger, Nardia Bennet, followed up by posting a 28-minute live stream berating American and its employees.
The video features Nardia swearing at employees demanding that the airline treat her and her daughter with more respect, but the airline is saying the way Nardia handled the situation and yelled at employees also prevented her from boarding the flight. Nardia continued on Facebook on Thursday that she plans on suing American because of the way they treated her. The video showed no signs of mistreatment, but its up to American to decide whether a passengers outfit meets their standards, even with its more relaxed policy.
Space A ....... DOD retired perk aka flying standby with military. USAF primarily. Albeit I got lucky on almost every flight I’ve requested there have been a few times I’ve been bumped.
When I was a kid in the 50’s and 60’s, people dressed up like church to go to church.
Have you ever seen how people dress for jury duty?
Step one would be to fire the employee who enabled their free travel. That would send a message to other employees who might then show a bit more discernment.
..............
Ran this video by my airline employee relative.
He said exactly that.
I haven’t flown in 17 years. I have no clue how people dress on airlines. Since TSA Nazis took over airport security, I have made it my mission not to fly when I can drive instead. I won’t fly on any trip under 1000 miles. So far so good. I’ve driven more than that just to avoid flying. The airlines can go to hell as long as TSA Nazis are in power.
“Went to a baptism last week. Had to change because Mrs. Buckeye did not think I was dressed up enough for the occasion. When we got there the guy in the pew in front of me was wearing ripped, distressed denim shorts, sandals, a Hawaiian shirt and a three-inch cross earring on one ear that looked like it was about to tear his earlobe off.”
Was he the child’s father, or the pastor ? :)
Here in Texas it’s more important to show up than show off. I wear a dress shirt and if the weather isn’t too hot, a tie. Some folks show up in t-shirts if that’s the best they can do.
she was rightly denied
Here in Florida, you are sent a notice that says you must appear in ‘business attire’...................
The dress code is a recipe for disaster.
I wear business attire (shorts jacket and tie) to jury duty. The security people think I’m a lawyer.
That would probably fly here, too..........................
