A few years ago I watched a several hours long special about scientists who studied the shroud for months. It convinced many of them who were skeptics to become believers.

Ok......Fox is reporting NOT on the original article but from Buzzfeed (!) which is quoting a guy who read the article. I'm surprised they didn't report on Watters asking a random guy on the street about the underlying paper.

If you click through to the underlying paper, you'll see it is based on presentations in 2014 and 2015. Why did it take 4 years to get this thing published? Surely if there was uber-compelling interest they'd have gotten the funding sooner.

Maybe the problem for these researchers is the abundance of evidence to Contrary of their research, including blood nanoparticles on the Shroud consistent with tourture trauma. And so on.

Methinks the timing of this release - and the WTF element of Buzzfeed (yea, dude...that's where I turn for empiracle research results) has some hidden agenda. Regardless, the same "science" these researchers use to "disprove" the Authenticity of the Shroud is increasingly being used to reveal THEIR hoax.

The Vatican regards it as an icon, rather than a religious relic—and the church has never weighed in on its authenticity nor officially rejected it."

The image of whomever-it-is is not composed of blood or sweat dripped, painted or daubed on the cloth.It consists of the altered fibers of the cloth itself, encoded with a wealth of accurate 3-dimenstional spatial information, suggesting the hypothesis that it was radiated. Blood splotches, wherever they came from, are extraneous and do not contribute to the image itself.

Therefore to analyze the blood, is not to analyze the image proper.

To say "image" is almost to say too much, since it is practically undetectable to the naked eye, and shows up clearly only with enhanced imaging technologies. This suggests that the image itself was not made intentionally, since for viewing, it would require technologies far beyond what existed either in late Roman antiquity, or the medieval period. It would not have been visible enough to "work" as pictorial propaganda.

That said, the Vatican has, very reasonably, never declared it a relic. It is icon of ---as far as we know --- unprecedented provenance.

According to a documentary I watched, the tests for the shroud’s age are done on a very small piece that was cut from (near?) a corner of the shroud. Since the shroud has been handled for centuries without the kind of care we now use, the corners may be contaminated with more recent DNA.

Researchers concluded that the linen seems to be patched with bloodstains from a standing model, not a crucified man or a facedown corpse, reports BuzzFeed News, adding evidence to claims that it is a fraud. . . The investigation into the bloodstain pattern on the cloth was reported Tuesday in the Journal of Forensic Sciences and is apparently the first such analysis of the controversial shroud.

There are so many things wrong with the conclusions of Buzzfeed's 'forensic experts' that I'm at a loss where to start. Concluding that the Shroud seems have been 'patched with bloodstains' to the pattern from a 'standing model or a face down corpse' shows this 'expert' has no concept of the over 100 years of preceding work by world class forensic experts who have experimented with corpses hanging on crosses to find out exactly what way blood flows on a human body due to the blood flow on the image on the Shroud. I could probably list a least a dozen articles by expert forensic investigators and professors of forensic scientists who have done studies on the blood flows on the Shroud in the past hundred years using both corpses and live human subjects.

Instead, 'Matteo Borrini, a forensic scientist at Liverpool John Moores University in the United Kingdom, told BuzzFeed News. “Even a crucified or hanging person should leave a distinct blood pattern on the cloth, which would be fascinating information to have.”

Hello, Professor Borrini, a crucified person is essentially erect, not facedown. That shows Borrini did not even bother to study the current state of the forensic literature on the Shroud before opening his ignorant mouth, or he would have known that these very things he would know these data he would be fascinated to have IS AVAILABLE, and has been published in peer reviewed scientific journals and been replicated, numerous times by experts in the field.

In addition, once dead, a corpse does not continue to bleed. Face down? The only time the body of Jesus would have been face down was when it was being removed from the cross and carried to the tomb, and already dead, a period several hours after Jesus had died. This demonstrates that, once again, this so called 'expert' has not examined the blood stains on the Shroud, nor really thought through his 'theory.'

“The fact that flowing bloodstains exist at all on a deceased body that was reportedly cleaned also raises questions,” he added.

Does Professor Borrini, et al, even know WHY the women were going to the Tomb that Sunday morning when they discovered the body missing? They were going to WASH the body which was NOT done on the eve of the Sabbath because their was literally no time to get done before sundown and the beginning of the period no work was allowed to be done. Ergo, it had not been washed, only packed with herbs and perhaps anointed with oils on the head before the men who had moved it to the tomb rushed out to ritually cleanse themselves before the beginning of the Sabbath. — PING!
