Another fox has died after being mauled by a jaguar that escaped its enclosure Saturday morning (July 14) at Audubon Zoo, officials said Sunday.
The fox's death brings the overall number of animals killed by the escaped jaguar to eight. Zoo officials announced Sunday morning that a fifth alpaca had also succumbed to its injuries. In total, five alpacas, two foxes and one emu were killed by Valerio the jaguar, who escaped his enclosure Saturday morning.
One other fox was injured in the attack and continues to be monitored by the zoo's veterinarians.

this is bound to be another indicator of the rampant incompetence that seems to permeate new orleans; when you have a zoo that is mostly comprised of predators and their food, protecting the latter from the former would seem to be priority number one.
but these are folks that live in a bowl, and yet don’t evacuate from cat 5 hurricanes, so perhaps they’re just misunderstood down there in bayou country.
No. The Audubon Zoo has nothing to do with New Orleans other than it’s located there. It’s actually a nice, well run zoo and I am at a loss of words over what happened. I’m sure we will find out.
Shouldn’t we wait for autopsy results before we vilify this cat?
That is a bayonet, maybe on a SMLE.
Exactly. But that ‘death toll” crap sounds too dramatic.
Yep. Some type of bolt-action rifle.
Cats are killers.
Two turtle doves
and a partridge in a pear tree...
He did not deposit a single dead animal on my back porch...
My dog and cat are far more human friendly, they pay up front.
Not guilty!
Must be getting close to the Jaguars’ record for most sacks in a season...
cat - mouse
jaguar - fox
We adopted a stray tuxedo cat back in 2010. Turns out she was with kitten.
The unexpected cats are 8 this year
They do keep us entertained.
What is really funny is the people who are so sad... go out and get chicken...salmon...turkey...beef...shrimp....crab...all slaughtered voluminously so their pet dog or cat can eat...then most of them eat the same and more for dinner...meanwhile a jaguar gets his own food and they’re devastated.

That was just Valerio being Valerio.

Maybe the alpaca they show their vagina to Valario and they say You will never get this, you will never get this, la la la la la. He behind his cage, crazy, crazy. Everybody laugh. Alpaca go You never get this. But one time he break the cage and he GET this and we all laugh, high five!
