NEVER follow trucks of any kind. And don’t get in front either. It’s a rough world out there.

To this day I remember what happened to a grad at the university where I was doing my PhD. The truck in front of her was hauling furniture (just a regular guy moving stuff) and something flew off through her windshield. This woman’s life was changed forever, but the driver only got a fine.

She went from a bright, young grad to a blind woman with a disfigured face. I stay well behind anyone with a big load.

Was Wile E. with them? He's a regular boulder magnet.

I always thought that the Roadrunner Cartoons would be a great teaching tool for High School Physics. Just going through some of them for the 'impossible' actions like this one would be a great starting point.

As for this lamentable tragedy, God Bless their families and friends. R.I.P.

In high school, I was following a pickup truck and a 4x8 sheet of plywood flew out of the bed and sailed OVER my car. All I couldn’t see was instant decapitation headed my way. Learned my lesson real early.

About the same time, I was driving parallel to the neighborhood golf course when an errant drive shot bounced on the road right in front of my car and ALSO sailed over the car.

Nothing like that in the 50 years since!

Driving down the freeway I told the fellow I was with to not stay behind a truck with big mattresses in it. They didn’t look secured. The truck flew on down the road, but we met up with it again. It had lost a huge mattress which had found it’s way inside of a car behind it. The wheels had turned the mattress into the interior under part of the car. Just a part of it was visible and the car was somewhat up in the air with the mattress in it. It is amazing the people lived and somehow got off the road. I don’t know how they did it. I would have been really thanking The LORD for sure. I did for them.

Also, a friend in Madison, Wisconsin was instantly killed when a piece of something wooden flew off the truck in front of her. When she tried to stop for it a car rammed into her from behind. Her back bone and neck broke and she was instantly dead.

It is really smart to stay, as much as possible, away from any vehicle that may have something it’s carrying that isn’t secure.
