The Mac used to have numerous advantages over the PC, but with Windows 10 the PC has now closed the gap.
These days buying a PC gives you many more options compared to the Mac, which continues to stagnate. Business Insider's senior tech correspondent, Steve Kovach, switched his Mac for a PC to see what Windows 10 really has to offer.
Following is a transcript of the video.
Steve Kovach: I've been a Mac user for over 15 years. I hated PCs. They came loaded with a bunch of software that slowed down my machine, and they caught viruses way too easily.
Ad: Last year there were 114 thousand known viruses for PCs.
PCs, but not Macs.
Steve: Then I discovered the Mac. And it had everything the PC didn't. But lately, I've grown frustrated with the Mac lineup. And while Apple has let its Mac lineup stagnate, Windows 10 computers have gotten really good. So I decided to make the switch back for a few days and tested Huawei's new MateBook X Pro. Which runs Windows 10 and starts at about $1200. Some have called it the best laptop you can buy. And guess what, Windows is actually really great. And I may even like it better than my Mac.
Windows 8 tried to be two operating systems in one. One for desktop and one for mobile. And it failed at both. It even got rid of Windows' iconic Start menu. But Windows 10 reversed a lot of those mistakes. The Start menu's back and it works great on the desktop. Windows 10 comes with Cortana. The Microsoft Digital Assistant. It can dig through files on your computer and even search the web. It's almost as good as Google Search.
Windows 10 also has a lot more hardware options.

I get the feeling you empathize with my “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” attitude. ;-)
RE: I hate Microsoft as much as I hate liberals. Bill Gates is devil spawn.
I gather you prefer Tim Cook? Is he conservative?
Edit to add — Bill Gates hasn’t run Microsoft for over a decade.
Yeah. NBCSportsGo plays and so does most Youtube and similar videos.
From help threads, it seems the problem with FoxSportsGo has to do with Flash player and Digital Media Rights. It won’t play in any of the several browsers I have tried. Apparently, Chrome doesn’t work because it has some proprietary flash-type player and will not release the code.
God bless Him- my tired mind can’t handle it though-
I was on the foxsportsGo site and saw the vids with my linux/firefox- the free ones that is- are they different than the pay vids there??
I’m a Windoze guy but, no way Win10 is better than Apple.
The videos will play, but the live streams will not connect. The flash player screen loader just spins and will not load the ‘event’.
I call BS. Windows 10 sucks beyond words. My work and personal computers run Windows 7 Pro and I like them. For my kids I bought a cheap windows 10 laptop and absolutely hated it and cried no tears when they dropped it on the floor one time too many. To replace it I bought bunch of used IBM Thinkpads running XP for cheap- they run everything the kids need and the OS gives me no headaches.
A few years ago I left a company on the left coast to move back to the Midwest and as a going away gift my coworkers chipped in on a new Ipad. It was the first Apple product I used since swearing off Mac in college after losing one too many disks wiped out the campus labs (never could remember to put it in the trashcan before ejecting the disk). Right out of the box I was absolutely comfortable using it and had it doing everything I wanted with seemingly no learning curve. I have since bought several Ipads and Iphones because I love the intuitive, user friendly interfaces. Under Cook they seem to be losing focus, but it is still amazingly easy to setup and use one.
Just last night, preparing for the county fair we got a set of Lego robotics kits from our local 4H that came with Dell touchpads running Windows 10. The Win 10 touchpad devices are an absolute nightmare to do ANYTHING with. If it wasn’t 4H property entrusted to me I would have taken them out to use as target practice with the shotgun. Nothing is intuitive; nothing works right. I paused from pulling my hair out with the Win 10s and had my Ipad download the app. The kids had one kit fully programed for their presentation on the Ipad before I could get one Win10 device configured to work with another kit. I called the 4H leader about it and she said can usually get them to work OK (her husband works in IT) but most people just give up on the tablets provided and use their Ipads.
Windows 10 is crap and the author is a shill.
Exactly. The cost premium for a Mac is not worth it. Especially with modern PCs and recent OS improvements.
College kids like Macs. Probably because mom and dad are paying for it.
Interesting that Apple doesn’t seem to care that much about it. Maybe because Apple’s business is in cell phones, ipads, music players and media and “oh by the way the do have desktops and laptops.”

I’ve always disliked laptops. but if my home desktop dies, I can get a faster laptop at Costco for just a few hundred dollars and use my Microsoft natural keyboard and my large, curved monitor. The only real problem is I can’t really replace parts much. I’ve been through three video cards (stupid fan freezes up and it’s easier to just replace the whole thing).

Yup. And if you are so inclined, you can repair your PC anytime. Not so with Macs. Heck you might even have to take it to the Apple store to add a memory stick.
Apple computers are a closed architecture. PCs are and have always been open. That is how to get the cost lower — more choices and optionsthrough competition. The free market system for computers.
Apple us still less than 10% market share. This has not changed in years. Decades? Thanks for the post.
On the other hand... cell phones...
Uh...no.
While you can buy low end Window's machines, especially laptops, you get what you pay for.
Mac doesn't serve the low end market.
When you compare feature to feature and especially the quality of the build, Macs are about the same price.
Take into consideration total cost of ownership - especially tech time - and Macs are actually cheaper for a business.
BTW, I was a certified Microsoft Network Administrator that made his money being tech support. When I opened my own imprinted sportswear business, I opted for Macs. The few Windows PCs I must have for production use give me more problems than all my Macs combined.
It's not just me. Check out this article about IBM:

Well, we know why we continue to use Windoze, even with the BSOD or second Tues of the month infringement on productivity.
Their OS is easier to nav, mouse options are way better, better games....etc. LOL

Businesses will never use Apple computers at the same level as they use PCs. This is a fact.... unless Mac come down in cost (for the system and the software).
Maybe this analogy is more descriptive — the PC is like Fords original Model T to consumers. It was cheap to produce, widely available, and very cheap to purchase, maintain, and upgrade. Plus parts are readily available and best of all you can change the oil yourself. Heck you can even rebuild your transmission along the side of the road.
MAC computers are like the foreign sports car of the same vintage — expensive to purchase, expensive to maintain, and expensive to upgrade. You may have to change the oil less frequently but, when you do, the oil change is very expensive. Plus, there is the risk that you will not be able to purchase replacement parts in the near because of planned obsolescence.
The vintage sports car is not targeted at the average consumer but the fringe folks with extra cash.
Plus, it is the cheap PC that has made computers spread far and wide and just like Fords Model T, made the car a fixture in everyone’s garage; a PC is in everyone’s home, too.
Ya, Microsoft phones are junk.
Good info. Thanks!
Notice that there are only two/three iOS versions listed. Maybe because Apple has a habit of dumping support for older OSs along with the expensive phones... so that we, consumers are forced to upgrade every couple of years.
Call me jaded but this is my personal experience with Apple.
