What intermediate do you use? Notepad?

None, copy and past direct from source. Use "pre" then "/pre" (inside < >) to have it format as copied.

For images copy the image location then use html for image posting. If image is "large" change it to small or medium.

Think I now have learned how to make my own memes from an existing image, adding text with paint, uploading image to postimages.org, then copy location to post here.

If someone has an idea for a meme let me know, will try to see if I can do it.

If you want the readers' browser to set the width, you are better off just abandoning the

 method, and inserting 

at the end of each paragraph.

And "br" at each line to prevent long lines.

Yep.

If you put in any html, like a link reference, then all your text is assumed to be html and you have to add paragraphing.

Paragraphing is maintained if you use pre. BUT it does keep the text as it was. Usually the only reason you see nicely wrapped text on some article is because your browser is nicely wrapping the VERY long lines.

Use pre and you get to SEE those very long lines.

So pre and add line breaks? Or let your post assume html and add paragraphs.

I usually add paragraphs as it means fewer keystrokes.

I only use <br> when I want a line break without a blank line following - like if I want a short line within a paragraph. If you use one <br> at the end of a long line, it is still a long line, and under <pre>, will go past the right margin.

A <p> will put in a line break plus a blank line (empty line between paragraphs), and will cause the preceeding line or lines to fill the (variable) paragraph width in each browser.
