Authorities are trying to determine what caused a boat explosion in the Bahamas that left an American tourist dead and nine others injured. Four Americans who survived the incident were flown to Tampa, Florida, for treatment. The blast ripped through the boat carrying 10 American sightseers Saturday, shortly after it set off from the Island of Exuma. The blast sent a column of black smoke billowing into the blue Bahamian sky.
With the ship engulfed in flames, panicked passengers on another tour boat begged their captain to pull away. Others jumped into the water and swam toward the burning ship, bringing the injured on board....

The boat was an outboard. No bilge.
it doesn’t say how long they had been underway but it seems if it was fumes in the bilge, it would have exploded upon or shortly after ignition.

Probably taken to the Burn Center at Tampa General. There is a burn center in Miami, which would've been closer, but it may have been full already.

El wrongo mighty one. Bilge is defined as an enclosed portion of a boat. It must be accessible from a hatch and able to ventilate from a fan and have a pump.
I’ve owned 2 Bertha s and a Carolina whaler. Self draining open transoms are not bilges.
I never mentioned “open transoms” and just because a vessel has a self draining cock pit does not mean it doesn't have a bilge. But your 3 boat ownership certainly trumps my 200 gross ton unlimited masters ticket!
