SCANNER TRAFFIC INDICATES: One Person Suffers Critical Injuries After Being Mauled by Dog in Arcata Mobile Home Park
An Arcata dog is being held in quarantine at the Humboldt County Animal Shelter for the time being, following a rampaging attack on two people Monday morning at the Town & Country Mobile Villa off Giuntoli Lane in Arcata.
The incident took place just before 11 a.m. on the 4900 block of Sierra Way, inside the park, and prompted a large response from police and paramedics. The dispatchers log of the call reads: [Reporting party] screaming into the phone about a dog attack, and that someone needs medical, just kept screaming hurry.
First responders at the scene referred to the incident as a mauling, and quickly called for another ambulance for an additional patient. One of the patients was believed to have critical injuries, and the other had moderate injuries, according to emergency radio traffic at the time.
Lt. Bart Silvers of the Arcata Police Department told the Outpost today that both of the victims were adults, and that at least one of them is the dogs owner. He didnt have any updated information about their condition, but he confirmed that his officers captured the dog and took it to the animal shelter.
The dog is still there as of today, and is in a quarantined area of the shelter while it is determined whether or not it is rabid, according to Andre Hale, the shelters manager.
Hale, reached this afternoon, says it hasnt yet been determined what will happen with the animal. (She would only characterize it as a mixed-breed dog.) In such cases, she said, the owner has 10 days to request the return of the pet or surrender it to the custody of the police. . .

Multiple sources, the victim was 91 and apparently, the father of the dog owner’s boyfriend. Apparently.
The comments at the three sources are a bit convoluted. I am a bit uncertain, even after reading 3x.
Did you or someone you know recently get bit by a dog? You sure seem like you’re on some kind of dog bite mission for some reason.
I refuse to own a dog that bites when not provoked. In most states there is a “One Bite” rule that they will not prosecute you if is the first time the dog bit anyone. But you are still liable for the damages.

Thanks for posting this. Awareness starts with knowledge. One of my friends trained K9s for Chico, California 28 years before moving to Oklahoma years ago. He has helped me train my Malinois. He is a frequent lecturer at training workshops, and works with utility and delivery workers on how to avoid bites from dogs. He did a short video on the topic, that I may still have around somewhere. Again, thank you for posting.

P.S. A trained dog is like a loaded weapon; an untrained dog is like a loaded weapon laying on the ground available to anyone. It can be harmful, like the gun, to those not trained to deal with it.
That effing sucks.
91 yr old man, most probably a veteran who saw action during WWII, doing his part to protect America.
And at the end of his long life, he goes out like this.
What stupid, stupid child thinks it proper to have a frail old man in the same vicinity of a jihady dog.
Damn. RIP Sir.
For those wondering its Northern California. I say northern California because not all of California is a freak state. Maryland has the same distinction. take out baltimore, mongomery and Anne Arundel county, the state isnt so leftist. biggest problem is, the people in those counties are allowed out of those counties to roam freely to other counties of the state and to move to other counties. they ar ewhat I call “ poop in the soup”. IE the soup is edible until someone adds a little poop. then its unfit to eat.
I was bit by a lab pit bull mix in 2013 and it changed how I feel about all dogs but especially one with any pit bull. Don’t trust them. The one that bit me was “a friendly family pet.” Uh huh. Until he wasn’t
I was bit by a lab mix when I was 9 yrs old, learned not to invade its territory without permission - still love dogs.
The title displays more concern for the life of the dog than the two mauled. Sad.
Right. Well said.

I am visiting my son in Arcata. I drive by Giuntelli every day and my Fav Mex Restaurant is there. When I go walking in nearby town, I am put off often by barking dogs, some unrestrained. A lot of strange people hang out in Humboldt County.
Big illegal pot growing area. Doing massive illegal activities makes people act rather paranoid...
Another Pit turns on its owner. The clues are all there no matter how much they try to hide them.
I was informed, at one point some years ago, that I should “educate myself” about pit bull type dogs, by a pit bull advocate.
The way in which this person suggested this course of action was in such a tone and demeanor that one would normally wish to slap the face of a person speaking in this manner.
I did not slap this person’s face. It was such “over the top” attitude that I became curious, and began to do as she suggested.
I became appalled and heartbroken while looking at pictures of the bodies of person mauled and killed by pit bull type dogs. I have watched videos of pit bull attacks, which is very difficult for me to do. I read the stories of the victims.
In addition, I have read many, many posts of persons who ask questions of why I do this.
If you are really curious, please go to “General/Chat” and input “pit bull” into the search line. You will find much posted information on these dogs in the stories that I - and others - have posted.
You may wish to check out www.nationalpitbullvictimawareness.org and look at the “victims” page.
Thank you for asking.
Yes. Each state, indeed, each municipality, is unique in the manner of dog bite statute.
Thank you for your comment. RIP indeed.
Yes. It is the same principle which describes the pit bull dna now in the “rez dog” gene pool on the reservations.
The dog fighter breeders concentrated the brain abnormalities which cause “impulse aggression” (dog-figher desired pit bull unprovoked attack behavior) in their pit fighting dogs.
Pit Bull type dogs are spayed at less than 25%, as opposed to general population of dogs in the US of over 70%.
Now they have free running “rez dogs” with pit bull genes.
