He writes the songs that make people run.

Some Rite Aid stores in California have taken to blasting Barry Manilow tunes as part of a plan to make loiterers scramble.

Employees told the Wall Street Journal that the drugstore chain has been testing the tactic of playing songs by the 75-year-old crooner outside their stores — over and over, loudly — to deter panhandlers and vagrants.

But the plan has also left neighbors mystified.

“I thought some older man had died and left a Barry’s Most Depressing Hits CD on repeat,” said Lisa Masters, a professional drummer in Long Beach who couldn’t open her windows without hearing “Mandy” blaring.

“I felt trapped in an episode of ‘The Twilight Zone,’” she said.

Black Oak Arkansas. Jim Dandy to the rescue, lol. The dad of one of my friends back in the day had a visceral hatred for this bunch, lol.

I was working on the high school baseball field one day when some skateboarders showed up and started to do stunts on the bleachers. I told my son to go up to the press box and play some country music.

They left before the 1st chorus of Red Dirt Road ended.

I love Fogelberg and I really like his duet with Weisberg, “Part of the Plan”.

I was very young when “Heart Hotels” and “Longer” were released so I recently started downloading his LP’s. He was supremely talented and his songs were brutally honest.

I have just started listening to his compositions with Weisberg. So far, I like what I’ve heard.

Nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody, admits to having listened to Barry Manilow in the 70s, yet he sold about a kazillion records. Hmmm....
